Friends, the time has come. Early voting starts tomorrow and runs until March 3rd. There are four races this go ‘round that are of particular importance to me. Please take a moment to read these recommendations, and even if you disagree, go VOTE!
284th District Court: I am supporting my friend of many years, Jo Ann “Jo” Linzer. She’s got what it takes to manage this Court, which is one of the busiest in the State. She’ll be decisive, fair, and efficient.
County Clerk: Mark Turnbull. His office is efficient, his administration transparent, and he has been a good steward of our taxes. We couldn’t ask for a better County Clerk.
District Clerk: Melisa Miller. She’s not only up to the job, in this race, she is the only person qualified to immediately assume the duties of this incredibly important office.
County Treasurer: I’m supporting Melanie Bush because she is qualified, well-educated, fair-minded, and to be blunt, her last name isn’t Davenport. I know that her opponent is a sweet lady, but I am deeply concerned about her husband’s influence in her office and in Montgomery County politics and the influence he seems to wield over so many in our local government. We need elected officials who can get along, but be independent, and independence is an anathema to the current Treasurer. It’s time for a change.
Those are my picks. No need to agree, and certainly no need to argue, just get out there and VOTE!

It is no surprise to anyone who knows me that I support Melisa Miller for the Republican nomination for Montgomery County District Clerk. Please mark your calendars for February 20-March 2 for early voting!
Courier: Miller the rock-solid Republican candidate for district clerk It would be pretty tough to find any nonincumbent with as much knowledge as Melisa Miller about a position being sought. Ask the Montgomery County district clerk candidate any question regarding that office, and she's off to the races - no pause and no taking a breath. Miller knows where the Distric...

I support Melanie Bush for Montgomery County Treasurer. Melanie is better qualified than the incumbent, is independent of other elected officials, and the right person for the job. I’m a . Please do your research, and join me in helping to make a change!
Bush counters in open records battle involving county treasurer race Montgomery County treasurer candidate Melanie Bush has filed a brief with the Texas Attorney General's Office in response to County Treasurer Stephanne Davenport's brief seeking an AG's Opinion regarding whether the Treasurer Office Procedure Guides developed in 2014 are exempt from the Public Infor...

I am supporting Melanie Bush for Montgomery County Treasurer. I am deeply concerned that our current Treasurer is either a) trying to prevent the public from inspecting her office’s policies and procedures, or b) such an inept manager of this department that she has included sensitive personal (whose information?) information within those manuals, which are the definition of public records.
Courier editorial: Dangers for Treasurer Davenport hinge on secretiveness, not openness In a speech before the American Newspaper Publishers Association in 1961, President John F. Kennedy stated: "The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. Anyone who knows me knows I am super-particular about my appearance. One thing I cannot imagine is having to face the loss of everything without, well, my "face." I am starting my own little drive of "extras," and collecting toiletries for ladies (both young and old) who are displaced. I'm calling it Operation Lipstick.
I'm looking for...
- Unused, new moisturizer, cleanser, fragrance, lipstick/gloss, eyeliner, mascara, and other cosmetics
- New, unused makeup remover wipes/pads
- New, unused hair brushes,
- New, unused "gifts with purchase" or other promotional items
- New, unused tweezers and manicure sets
For sanitary reasons, all makeup and products must be unused. If you have something you can contribute to help the ladies affected by Harvey feel a little bit more themselves while they are displaced, please let me know. My goal is to put together a toiletry kit for as many women as I can. I know many will criticize, and say, "They've lost everything, and you're worried about makeup?" Well, if it were me, knowing that I had a little something that was just for me would make me feel better. I'm calling this
You can mail contributions to my office at 204 W. Davis Street, Conroe, TX 77301, or contribute through Venmo, . You can also have items shipped directly to my office.

One of the oddest parts of being a political candidate is being utterly humbled by he friendships that develop with people you encounter on the campaign trail. I am honored to call Deborah a friend. As a Magnolia resident, I know we'll miss Deborah's leadership, but I wish her well in this new chapter!
Magnolia prepares for life without its community dynamo After wrapping up the annual Magnolia Bowl football battle between the city's two high schools, Magnolia ISD trustee Deborah Miller moves one step closer to the end of her tenure with the district. For Miller, the district's dynamic and prolific trustee, her impending departure not only marks the…

Friends, I am proud to announce that my practice, Katherine Shipman, PLLC Attorney, will become The Bihm Firm, PLLC, effective September 15th. We are still going to offer clients the same practical and compassionate counsel, but with a name that better reflects the growth of my practice. I look forward to what is to come!
This story is just...it. Watch the whole thing, so you can see their dog, smiling while they have dinner. Some families aren't born, they're chosen. And when you see families like this, you realize that love, comfort, and acceptance can come from the most unlikely sources.

During times like these, we look for reasons why a person does such a horrible thing. The cause of this man's actions is not "Black Lives Matter," police shootings, or racism. This happened because this man was LOST. Lost to reason, lost to empathy, lost to hope for a better future. He was lost to the idea that, in Jesus, there is hope and strength to live together with our imperfections in love and peace. As we go through the next few days, enduring an endless onslaught of media about this horrible event, let us not lose ourselves. My heart goes out to the families of these fallen officers, to police officers everywhere who report for duty with fear in their hearts, and for the people of Dallas.

Impartiality means avoiding even the appearance of impropriety. It appears from this article that the judge went so far as to manipulate who would be listed as a witness in a case. That's not impartial, that's active participation in the State's case.
DWI case dismissed because judge listed as witness A District Court Judge previously reprimanded by the Texas State Bar is also the subject of a formal complaint to the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct, Channel 2 Investigates has learned.
I've worked with a number of teens in my practice, and have some of my own. This video is spot on!

The US Supreme Court held that a former prosecutor cannot sit as judge on a case in which he had a prior role. It will be interesting to see how this case is applied and affects Montgomery County's 9th District Court, on which the new judge is the former First Assistant District Attorney.
Supreme Court Overturns Death Sentence In Judge Recusal Case If a prosecuting attorney has signed off on the death penalty against a certain defendant, can that same attorney later be on of a panel of judges reviewing that death sentence?
Burglary by hugs! Too, too cute...

This is perhaps the best description of how criminal defense lawyers view even the most indefensible of our clients. And how many of us feel about the sentence handed down to this convicted ra**st. The author uses some salty language so be advised...
Brock Turner: The Sort of Defendant Who Is Spared “Severe Impact” So you won’t find defense lawyers like me cheering Brock Turner’s escape from appropriate consequences. We see it as a grim reminder of the brokenness of the system. We recognize it as what makes the system impossible for many of our clients to trust or respect. And we know that when there’s a backl...

Our elected District Attorney has made a fine choice to be his First Assistant. Mike Holley is fair, firm, compassionate, and kind. Every time I have worked with him, it was clear to me that he took his oath to seek justice to heart. His varied experience brings much needed perspective to this position. I look forward to seeing him in action.
Ligon names new first assistant district attorney Four-year District Attorney’s Office veteran and former military prosecutor Mike Holley will ascend to replace presumptive Judge-elect Phil Grant as first assistant district attorney in Montgomery County.
Today is a great day! From the beginning, I have said that, win or lose, this campaign (and this journey) is God's plan for my life. It has been an extraordinary experience, and I thank each and every one of you for your support, encouragement, and your faith in my message. I have never felt better about losing in my life. Without you, and your belief in me, we wouldn't have held 'em to 561 votes! Others may think we've lost, but I think we've showed 'em what we're made of - integrity, grace, diligence, compassion, and intelligence. If that's losing, then I don't want to win! Congratulations to the winners In the runoff. You have worked hard, and I look forward to seeing what YOU'RE made of. Onward, , onward! (Now, back to your regularly scheduled lives...)
