September is Deaf Awareness Month, a time to recognize the Deaf community, celebrate Deaf culture, and raise awareness about communication access and inclusion.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects the rights of people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, including the right to effective communication and equal access to programs, services, and activities. Effective communication may include qualified sign language interpreters, captioning, assistive listening devices, or other appropriate accommodations.
Accessibility means making sure everyone has the opportunity to participate, communicate, and make their own choices. This month, take a moment to learn, listen, and consider how you can help create more inclusive spaces for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
New Hampshire Association of the Deaf has many events during Deaf Awareness week. Visit their website for more details: https://nhadinc.org/2026/09/14/deaf-awareness-week-2026-2/
