The Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church Barbecue has become a highly regarded event among the residents of Concord and the surrounding area.

Poplar Tent barbecue is the best around! In 1945, the members of Poplar Tent gathered all the items needed and prepared a meal of BBQ, slaw, brunswick stew, and dessert. They donated whole hogs, chicken, beef, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, corn and many other items along with a great deal of time, to make the first BBQ a success. Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church to CANCEL the 75th Annual BBQ

Concord, NC (October 9, 2020) – The Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church BBQ Committee has decided to cancel the 75th Annual BBQ which is always held on the 1st Thursday in November. The BBQ Committee prayed and polled church members, before coming to the decision that due to Covid, it would be in the best interest of the church members that work the BBQ as well as the general public that comes and supports the BBQ to cancel this year’s event. We are saddened that we will not be able to celebrate our 75th Annual BBQ this year and we are going to miss seeing the thousands of people that come every year to show their support for our church, enjoy the fellowship, and eat the best BBQ, Brunswick Stew, Cole Slaw, and homemade desserts in the state. As a Committee, we did not want to risk putting anyone in danger because of the close proximity all of the workers and those that come to support us would be in. Rest assured that we will have our 75th Annual BBQ next year on our usual date, November 4th, 2021, and we look forward to seeing you then.

As I sit back and reflect on another successful bbq, and think about the great food, wonderful fellowship, and tons of hard work, I would like to say a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered, and all those who came out in support of the church! We didn’t quite sell out of bbq, but what we had left is on its way to shelters and soup kitchens now!

Once again, thank you to all our customers an volunteers, we could not have a successful bbq without all of you!
