Soak Up the Rain | US EPA Soak Up the Rain promotes green infrastructure practices such as rain barrels, rain gardens, permeable pavements and green roofs to reduce stormwater runoff and prevent water pollution while bringing about a broad range of community benefits.

Today is National Stormwater Day! This recognition celebrates the many efforts around the country to increase awareness of stormwater as well as the tireless work of the thousands of stormwater professionals around the country whose daily work is focused on managing the stormwater runoff that discharges to our urban waterways. SOAKNH would like to thank the local champions who work to protect their community’s waterways! Is there someone to thank for their efforts in your community?

Did you know Soak NH has a map to show where folks are soaking up the rain? Simply go to the homepage and click on the map. You'll see photos, brief summaries, and the estimated reductions in runoff volume, sediment transport, phosphorus, and nitrogen. For example, the project highlighted at Gregg Lake in the 10/25 post below is estimated to eliminate over 19,000 gallons of runoff and 200 pounds of sand/sediment from reaching the lake each year! SOAKNH Projects - SOAK up the Rain NH Throughout New Hampshire, neighbors are planting rain gardens, using rain barrels, planting trees, and finding other ways to Soak Up the Rain to protect and restore clean water in their local lakes, streams, and estuaries. Explore the partners and projects.

Folks around Gregg Lake in Antrim are soaking up the rain! Here, a dry well and roof dripline trench are preventing runoff and beach erosion! Nice work!

Way to go Soak Up the Rain Tucker Pond!
Friends and family built multiple "Stormwater Solutions" at this multi-generational summer place on Tucker Pond on a beautiful August day. Here, a group of cousins install a dripline infiltration trench, preventing runoff from this roof from heading to the pond. Kudos to these hard workers! Want to build one yourself? On behalf of CT Northeast Organic Farming Association and their partners, we’re happy to announce a 4-day, in-person course in organic land care practices, running from 30th to November 2nd at the Portsmouth Historical Society in Portsmouth, NH.

The course offers 30 hours of instruction and site visits led by expert practitioners and leads to certification as an Accredited Organic Land Care Professional. Topics include site analysis, soil health, organic amendments, planting and plant care, organic turf management, stormwater management, the business of organic land care, and much more!
