Post hike mocktail- Recess with some fresh mint from my garden. Alcohol is limited post cancer diagnosis. The evidence to limit it is very strong. But after the 10 mile Mount Galehead I wanted something delicious! Plus it’s got some magnesium in there - perfect for my tired body. I hope you all enjoyed yesterday- it was a perfect weather day in my humble opinion.

Consistency and perseverance- I love these two terms when we are looking for health changes that take time. Consistently showing up for yourself even when you might not feel like going for that walk or prepping pulled chicken and sweet potatoes for lunch leftovers. Real lasting change takes time my friends but keep showing up. Pictured here no recipe….just sweet potato, pulled chicken, avocado, cucumber and salsa on this gorgeous day. A lovely lunch after my jog/walk this morning followed by some extra bone stimulating exercises. If my journey can help motivate- I will tell you this week I had a 3 month Lupron shot in my t**h, I started my daily pill to put estrogen at zero everywhere in my body and emotionally dropped my first child at college. That’s a week right? But I’ve moved every day. Eating well. And feeling pretty ok! So let’s get out there and be our best versions. Have a fabulous weekend.

I haven’t updated personally on here in a bit. I’ve focused my energy on the office and my health. If you are new here, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with estrogen, progesterone and Her-2 + breast cancer early October after a routine mammogram. Today I finished radiation. I’ve completed chemotherapy, which I worked telehealth all through, two surgeries including a mastectomy, HP shots every 3 weeks until next October, and 25 sessions of radiation. This hair wasn’t intentional, but it is growing back 💕. I’ve been back in the office since April, still focusing on your health. This diagnosis adds another layer to me as a provider. Bridging more functional medicine with traditional when needed. Still with a strong focus on gut health. And food as medicine, but also to be enjoyed. Thank you to those who have been so supportive to me on this journey. And now we transition to preventing reoccurrence mode vs fight cancer mode. I don’t believe all things happen for a reason. I never will think this happened to teach me a lesson. I never feel a child should have cancer for any reason. But we can arise to the situation we are dealt. And fight strongly and bravely and with positivity. And we can move our bodies as best we can to help mentally. That I truly believe makes all the difference 💕

Family sit down meals. If you asked me my number one tip to instill healthy eating habits in kids at any age - it’s going to be a family meal. Whether that’s breakfast or dinner due to schedules during the school year, either is great. Talking about making healthier choices doesn’t have nearly the same impact as having a balanced meal made, and them seeing parents eat as well. I know schedules are crazy these days. If family meals aren’t happening at all, start with a couple times a week. Vote on meal choices to get them involved. Last night was taco night….lots of variations on that one, and typically a hit!

Forced menopause and stress from cancer treatment has this body in an entirely new world in 7 months. You also need to be incredibly researched based with any supplements. Here are a few I’m needing. as my poor adrenals need support especially with this quick heat up. Creatine for both muscles and brain in menopause is well researched and from a trusted company and ….I swear their Ortho Spore IG during chemo saved my gut….and collagen….as my joints from induced menopause hurt. My hips feel 80. But this lady is determined to feel good to get back to climbing mountains once I’m fully through treatment.

I eased back into the office yesterday after 2.5 weeks off from surgery. I’m not back fully yet, it’s a 6 weeks off full recovery, but it feels great to be seeing patients this week! Yesterday I gently walked the Rock’n Race to support staff and patients 💕. Did anyone else go yesterday?? It’s such a great community event.
