Help us celebrate some of NH's most vulnerable and important species

Habitat destruction and road mortality have a massive impacts on our state's wild turtles. Doing your part to mitigate these distressors is pivotal to turtle population health

Ever used a Wildlife Management Area parking area? Walked a woods road? Followed a boundary line?

The Wildlife Habitat Program maintains:
• 130 miles of roads
• 200+ bridges & culverts
• 94 parking areas
• 500 miles of boundary lines

This infrastructure keeps the more than 62,000 acres of Wildlife Management Areas safe, accessible, and well‑managed.

This work is supported by the $2.50 wildlife habitat license fee on hunting and trapping licenses that was implemented in 1999. Last year, we had to spend over $220,000 to replace three bridges and fix roads on a single Wildlife Management Area – twice the revenue we get from the wildlife habitat license fee. The buying power of $2.50 has been cut in half with inflation, impacting our ability to continue the stewardship that keeps all WMAs well managed and enjoyable for everyone.

📸 A new bridge and repaired road on NH Fish & Game’s 25,000-acre CT Lakes Natural Area in Pittsburg. Maintaining property infrastructure such as this ensures rewarding experiences for WMA visitors but costs for doing this work are increasing every year.
