TOOLBOX TALK: Heat Exhaustion 🥵
Extreme heat on the jobsite isn't just uncomfortable — it's dangerous. Heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat rash are real risks, and heat also raises injury risk through sweaty palms, foggy safety glasses, and dizziness.
Know the warning signs:
🔴 Heat exhaustion: headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, irritability, thirst, heavy sweating, high body temp, low urine output
🚨 Heat stroke (medical emergency): confusion, slurred speech, seizures, hot/dry skin OR profuse sweating, unconsciousness, high body temp
Stay safe:
Drink 1 cup (8 oz) of water every 15–20 minutes; use sports drinks for longer/heavier sweating. Skip alcohol, caffeine, and sugar.
Take frequent breaks in shade or AC.
Watch out for each other.
If a co-worker shows signs of heat exhaustion or stroke: Call 911, move them to shade, remove excess clothing, cool with water/ice, fan them, and encourage sips of water.
