UEC visited this weekend. We were amazed by all the awesome projects they’ve been working on for the past decade or so! They 3D printed a full-size super race car!!!! Come on now! 🤩

& my dream has always been to unearth the greatness inside our families and empower them to create change in our world using their own unique voices. And we 👏🏽are 👏🏽here 👏🏽 for ALL 👏🏽 of 👏🏽 this!

Hey Y'all! I'll be presenting a workshop at the Long Beach Early Childhood Education Symposium! "Color Your Classroom" I'll be demonstrating some Sensory Art projects and talking about the benefits of allowing our youngsters the freedom to explore and create.

The Long Beach Early Childhood Education Symposium theme this year is "Early Education: Equity in Action".

We will engage in a hands-on interactive workshop designed to increase your capability and resources for teaching equitable sensory art in early childhood education. We will create art using easily accessible and affordable supplies that can be found in a home or at a dollar store; we will learn the basics of how the inclusion of art can look in an everyday classroom no matter the zip code in which you live. Art is for all, let's get creative!

ART CLASS: 🎨 We did a little "get to know ME" project creating a Lego Self-Portrait and for the background we created symbols & patterns to represent some of our favorite things!

Spring Art Class starts in a couple weeks and I can't wait!! We have so much fun creating and learning! Excited to see what the young artists create!

Last day of Art Class!!! 8 weeks in the Jungle. We finished our salt dough toucans & parrots today. They turned out so cool!

Gardening Class was a BLAST! Our seedlings 🌱 sprouted. Our garden bed is planted with corn, cucumber, squash, lettuce and carrots. And our flowers are in their new pretty painted pot homes! Can't wait for the next round of gardening!

Our very first CYWD x UEC GARDENING CLASS is here, a collaboration with Unearth and Empower Communities and these happy gardeners are super excited to learn about and grow a bunch of different plants. They are even excited to TRY them! We'll keep you all updated on our plant progress!

ICE CREAM CONES!!! What better way to end 8 weeks of art class than with ice cream?!?! These artists were learning about color! They created tints and shades of their favorite hue.

The afternoon Art 🎨 Class is learning about TYPOGRAPHY as we get ready to paper mache our 3D letters!

The morning Art Class worked on geometric shape collages and building their 3D letters.

We're getting ready to create our paper mache initials so we're practicing typography and lettering. Today, we did a quick project inspired by POP Artist, Robert Indiana 🎨 We created 3D letters and colored them using complimentary colors! These all look amazing!

It's never to early for CHEER!!! We had so much fun making textured paper to cut into strips to make a paper chain for our Christmas 🎄!

PIZZA PILLOWS are done! Everyone did such a great job cutting and gluing and threading their needles and sewing their crusts!

This Sunday, June 7th, we will be holding a Compton Peace Walk from 12pm-2pm. We will be walking in unison from The Gateway Town Center (Home Depot parking lot) to the MLK Monument by City Hall.

One of Compton’s greatest strengths is our love for our city. I firmly believe that we will emerge from this time more united and stronger than ever. Our kids are watching us and they deserve to live in a better world, a better city that ensures their peace and protection, full liberty and justice for all. It feels like forever since my last in-person art class. I miss all my little artists and seeing their creativity and willingness to try new things!

We tried our hand at sewing on these recycled coffee bean burlap bags which are perfect for beginners as you can use a blunt plastic needle and not worry to much about getting stuck! They did a great job and picked up the basics quickly!

Hey y'all! Here's another easy peasy sensory activity for the kiddos.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• Find any piece of paper, colored looks awesome. .
• Some tempera paint in a few different colors, poured into a shallow container big enough for stamping.
• And anything around the house that will make a textured print. For example, bubble wrap (rubber banded to a toilet paper roll), forks, fruit netting, plastic or Styrofoam cups, q-tips, cotton balls, etc. .

Then stamp away! I try to use my stamps in the same colors so they can stay nice and clean on the paper. .
