How to Have A Mental Health Day (That Actually Works) - Recovery Unplugged Written by Brandi Ganz Life would be easier if we all had a video game health bar above our heads letting everyone know how close we are to absolutely losing it, but the technology just isn’t there yet. So we have to take care of ourselves. Many self-care guides suggest bubble baths, yoga, or doin...

My name is Joshua Godwin, and I came to Divine Healing in October 2025.

When I arrived, I was the walking definition of a broken man. I was lost, heartbroken, and completely alone. I felt betrayed by everyone in my life—my family, my friends, everyone I had trusted. I was empty.

At the time, I was still trying to navigate a divorce after being married for ten years. Together, we had four children, and I could never seem to move past losing that life. I found myself trapped in an endless cycle of pain and sadness. I didn’t know how to live without them, and I was terrified to even try.

Eventually, the pain became my addiction.

It was familiar. The sadness. The emptiness. The loneliness.

I threw myself into work as a diesel mechanic and into my passion for mixed martial arts. The physical pain from the sport became the only way I could feel anything at all. Inside, I was hollow. I genuinely didn’t want to be alive anymore. I wasn’t living—I was simply existing, coasting through life and fading fast.

I knew where my life was headed, and the truth is, I was okay with it. I wanted it to end.

Then one day, my sister and I sat down together and decided enough was enough. She looked at me and said, “Let’s give happiness one last chance.”

That conversation changed everything.

It led me to a program called Divine Healing.

All I can say is… wow.

I thought I had already found God, or at least knew who He was. I was wrong. It was here at Divine Healing that I truly encountered Him. For the first time in my life, I surrendered completely. I gave everything I had to this program. I stopped fighting, took a chance, and trusted the process.

In doing so, I found more than recovery.

I found myself.

I found my purpose.

For years, I believed I was supposed to be a diesel mechanic for the rest of my life. But while I was here, God showed me something different. He revealed that He had given me the ability to make people feel seen, heard, and loved. I fell in love with serving others, and I knew that was exactly what I had been created to do.

I realized my purpose was to help people who were lost in the same darkness I had once lived in.

So I made a decision.

I sat down and built a plan. I didn’t want to simply help people—I wanted to dedicate my life to it. I went back to school, earned my GED, and enrolled in medical training to become a Mental Health Technician and Mental Health Support Specialist.

One day I heard a quote that has stayed with me ever since:

“I asked God why He led me through so much darkness and made me walk through it alone. He replied, ‘So you’ll know the way out when I send you back in for someone else.’”

That hit me deeply.

Today, I have devoted my life to helping others find hope, healing, and a better way to live.

Divine Healing taught me that I am no longer lost—I am found.

For that, I will be forever grateful.

There truly is a better way.
