☀️ Know Your ABCDEs of Skin Cancer ☀️

Early detection can make all the difference. Take a few minutes each month to check your skin for any new or changing spots.

A – Asymmetry
One half doesn’t match the other.

B – Border
Edges are irregular, jagged, or poorly defined.

C – Color
Multiple shades of brown, black, red, white, or blue within the same spot.

D – Diameter
Larger than 6 mm (about the size of a pencil eraser), although concerning spots can be smaller.

E – Evolving
A mole or spot that changes in size, shape, color, or begins itching, bleeding, or crusting.

🔍 During your appointment, I also use a dermatoscope to take a closer look at suspicious-looking lesions. While I cannot diagnose skin cancer, this tool allows me to better evaluate what I’m seeing. If anything appears concerning, I’ll always recommend that you follow up with your healthcare provider or dermatologist for proper evaluation.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, don’t ignore changes. If you notice something new or evolving, get it checked. Early detection saves lives. 💛

These are dermatoscope images of two lesions I identified this month during routine appointments. Both had features that concerned me, so I recommended they follow up with their healthcare provider. Both were later confirmed to be skin cancer.

This is why I take every spot seriously.

As an esthetician, I do not diagnose skin cancer, but I am trained to recognize lesions that don’t look typical. Using my dermatoscope allows me to examine the skin more closely and identify areas that may need medical evaluation.

If you notice a spot that’s new, changing, won’t heal, or just doesn’t look like your other moles, don’t ignore it.
