, are you using the to help guide team decision-making?

With so much complexity and many competing ideas and priorities, decision-making can be challenging. The Scrum values are an important tool to help guide your team when there are many competing ideas and paradox to navigate.

Here are some examples of open questions to bring the Scrum
values into the conversation:

- Which Scrum value feels most important for this decision?
- What will allow us to best honor our commitment to our Sprint Goal?
- What would be the most courageous action right now?
- How could openness help us move forward?

The Scrum values help teams feel connected to what is important to them. It is easier to move forward when you are connected to your values. And it is easier to recover if you learn
that you went in the wrong direction because you know you did it for the right reasons.

Inspect and adapt. Learn and improve.

Scrum Masters, how are you demonstrating compassion and understanding?

Servant leadership means that people are choosing to follow you rather than being forced, or simply because there isn't a better option available. People must feel that you genuinely care about them as individuals, not just as a team that can deliver valuable outcomes.

Compassion shows up as care, concern, warmth, appreciation, and empathy. Understanding shows up as non-judgment, wanting to understand someone's
perspective and way of seeing the world, exploring what's most important to them and their desires for the future.

It takes more than just "tolerating" differences and forgiving mistakes. It takes all the openness and curiosity you can find within yourself. And then you will probably have to cultivate some more.

Comment on this post an action you are taking to demonstrate compassion and understanding for team members and stakeholders.

Servant Leadership 101: 4 Ways to Embrace Change and Unpredictability - Agile Socks 06/10/2020

Do you ever feel like your younger self left a message for you to discover right when you needed it the most?

I recently came across this blog post I wrote over a year ago: 4 Ways to Embrace Change and Unpredictability.

While I wrote it in what now feels like a completely different era, it resonates so much. These are the steps I've been trying to take for myself. And these are the things I've been helping people focus on in coaching conversations.

And my heart melted a little when I saw that I ended the post with "Courage is essential."

Servant Leadership 101: 4 Ways to Embrace Change and Unpredictability - Agile Socks When people embrace change and learn to embrace unpredictability, they develop a more positive attitude, opening themselves up to see more opportunities.

I've been getting a lot of questions about how Scrum Masters can support teams during this crisis.

My first answer is to NOT ignore the emotions. We need to process them. We are human.

I think it's bu****it to think we can or should check our emotions at the door when we get to work.

This question reminds me of a post I wrote about emotional agility (link in the comments).
