We're excited to have Anna join us this Sunday! See you there? 👀

"I grew up in a household that always had Irish music playing," says harpist and singer Anna O'Connell, The Early Interval's special guest for their upcoming Twelfth Night concert. "When I was in sixth grade, my parents took my family on a trip to Ireland to see some of the places from which my grandparents had emigrated. It was there that I first encountered a harpist in person and what ignited my interest in this lovely instrument."

Come see Anna on January 4. More info: https://bit.ly/3KtLiSo

In the fall of 1976, Ron Cook and his friend Duane Sheets got together to play their recorders.

What started as a jam-session with friends eventually turned into The Early Interval.

Over the next 40 years, Ron grew The Early Interval into a beloved Columbus institution. Ron delighted in sharing medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music with hundreds of audiences and was responsible for creating and curating our popular Twelfth Night program.

Although Ron may no longer be physically in the audience, we know he will be with us in spirit every time we play together.

We are profoundly grateful to Ron and are honored to continue carrying on his vision.

Our deepest condolences to Janice, David, and Lauren. ♥️

We love to see the recorder get some love🫶 The recorder is a key asset to our group’s usual sound. David typically has 4 or 5 different recorders on hand depending on the timbre and range we’re trying to achieve. For some pieces we even have a full recorder consort!

Couldn’t let go by without sharing one of our favorite arrangements from our Epic Tunes program.

This event's epicness is still sticking with us a week later. 🎮 🎶

Thank you to all who came out to support our group as we embarked on a very-new-to-us program. We had so much fun putting together all of this video game music and getting to showcase such a wide range of early music instruments to new audiences (especially Gerdie, our beloved hurdy-gurdy).

This event was made even more epic by 's insane cocktail menu and 's digital artwork. And the could not have been more perfect for hosting this event.

And none of this would have been possible without . The grant work they do in Columbus brings all sorts of artistic endeavors like Epic Tunes to life, and we are so happy they could see the vision we had for this program.

We're breaking for the summer, but--we have big plans coming for the 2025-2026 season... watch this space 😎

You're building your jam band for . Who's your first pick?!

1. Lute - The OG. You are the classic bard. You don't need a group to rock out--but you know how to play nice with others when asked. Bust out the tavern tunes or some Dave Matthews.

2. Fiddle - You enjoy a good melody, particularly if you're the one leading it. You know how to play people's heart strings as well as your instrument. May secretly enjoy making people cry.

3. Recorder - Need to coax any woodland critters? You're on it. You're always ready to go since you never have to worry about tuning. Your instrument also conveniently doubles as a weapon.

4. Hurdy Gurdy - You've been accused of droning on, but you are the core of your group. You fill in the gaps and make sure there's never a lull. You enjoy getting in a good workout as well as a good tune.

Wanna see and experience any of these instruments in person?

Come to our Epic Tunes concert June 19th! 7PM .

Everyone needs a little more wassail in their lives!

Wassailing, the centuries-old tradition meant to chase away evil spirits and the winter blues, is making a comeback in rural England.
