Goodbye giant box elder which survived two lightning strikes but not the passage of time. Some parts donated to local wood carvers and workers, some parts given away for winter warmth, and now the remaining serving as mulch on the lot. The giving tree is gone but a new one planted.

Bikes for All People celebrates 5 years, 80 free bikes to Columbus children One local organization has given away dozens of bicycles to children in its community over the last five years.

Another research, development (and inspiration) trip to the Pacific Northwest to check out some containers in action.

After 47 out of 52 weekends, we are proud to say our project (and all participants) has survived one year. It is slow but steady progress as we prepare the "curb appeal" and start the next phase of the project. We have had some unexpected challenges along the way, including a break-in to our storage shed, some near disasters with a dying tree and a utility pole seemingly slammed into the front curb area (see photos) by a superhero. That technically happened in year Two though, but we will be working on cleaning that up as well. Here are some pics from the first year, highlighting how different the lot looks from the road now. Other good news, is that Whittier Road was repaved this summer so that is a bonus!

Inspiration from a quick research trip to Japan.

Sadly, the giant Box Elder tree had to come down, as it was in its final days. A new tree has been planted to "replace" it and some of the wood will be given away as fire wood, and some of it will be milled and used for something in the containers so it will live on as a giving tree! It really changes the view of the lot though!
