Our Story

String Theory consists of 4 musicians and a sound man, Larry, Arie, Kerry, Bruce and Eric. The band plays acoustic instruments with electronic pickups producing rich, full sound through our compact Bose sound system. Our sound and music is crisp, clean but not overwhelming or distorted, allowing our music to be easily enjoyed by all. Due to our sleek sound system and the use of a Cajon for percussion, we are able to produce full bodied music using very little stage space. Our sound board is a wireless tablet that eliminates cables on the floor other than what is necessary on the stage itself.
Bruce Goll, our percussionist, born and raised in Kansas was playing drums at an early age with his first professional gig at the age of 8 and was in a Rock ‘n’ Roll band at the age of 11. He played with a wide variety of bands and musical styles in the Kansas City area during the 1960’s and in Oklahoma in the 1970’s. He landed in Columbus, Ohio in 1979, where he has continued to be the driving beat of the best local bands in Columbus. Bruce’s performance is always crisp, clean, steady, polished with a natural ability to flex and flow between musical styles.
Larry Reese, our bassist, was born singing, playing gospel music and blue grass. His music has evolved into all genres but was has remained constant is his deep, mellow vocals. He has a complete vocal range with an ability to produce striking harmonies.
Kerry Patesel plays diverse instruments such as the mandolin, 12 string guitar as well as lead guitar. Kerry produces a wide range of voices from falsetto to deep bass. Kerry and Larry have been in various bands together for greater than 30 years and simply enjoy sharing music with an audience.
Commanding vocals, natural talent and a love of music describes Arie Shively, lead vocalist and guitarist. With a voice that is a reminiscent of Grace Slick, Anne Lennox and Alannah Myles, her vocal talents are extraordinary and impressive. Arie is Larry Reese’s daughter and was born into a life of singing and music. Arie and her dad have been singing together for as long as she can remember.
The fifth dimension of String Theory is like dark matter, you may not see it but it keeps the entire band sounding clean, clear and perfectly balanced. Eric Dalesandry, is the man who controls the sound for your listening pleasure. Look for him in the audience running the sound board from a notepad.
The greatest strength of String Theory Acoustic Group is the incredible vocal harmonies of Larry, Arie and Kerry. They cover groups from the 50’s to current tunes with selections where vocal harmonies predominate. Come and share an evening of sweet music with us.
