Demand for workers and applications to apprenticeship programs? Skyrocketing, he said. Wages and benefits? Szollosi said those are increasing, too.
“Don’t fall prey to the false reality, being perpetuated by social media influencers that data centers don’t create jobs,” Szollosi said. “This is the reality: The building trades have thousands of members working on or in data center plants across the state of Ohio.”
Local leaders and building trades representatives told Ohio lawmakers that data centers boost tax revenue and construction jobs and urged them to add guardrails — not a moratorium or elimination of the sales tax exemption — as state Sen. Significant day for Southern Ohio, the Tri-State Building & Construction Trades Council and our state:
The need for energy has never been greater, and Ohio is taking the lead on providing this essential resource for our state and our country.
The announced partnership in Pike County between Oklo Inc. and Centrus Energy Corp. could bring hundreds of jobs to Southern Ohio (over 700 full-time construction employees for multiple years), billions of dollars in investment, and is another step forward in ensuring America’s energy future is developed and built by American companies and workers.
Utility forecasts show that peak electricity load in Ohio could rise 50% by 2034. The ability to grow Ohio’s economy and encourage companies to expand or relocate here relies on energy capacity, reliability, and speed of delivery. It’s not just a business preference; it’s a necessity.
JobsOhio launched the Energy Opportunity Initiative last year to support Ohio's energy dominance and build the future supply we'll need. Today’s news is the latest example of Ohio stepping forward to assume energy leadership. Our advantages are clear: abundant natural resources, best-in-class infrastructure, pro-business legislation, an existing and growing supply chain, and a growing workforce. Oklo Inc. and Centrus Energy Corp. are further cementing Ohio's strength.
