Writing letters to their future adopted child can be very therapeutic for prospective adoptive parents who are waiting to be matched and trying to maintain a sense of connection to the adoption process. Similarly, biological parents can benefit from writing to their child while contemplating and/or after choosing adoption. An adoptee eventually receiving those letters would help answer a lot of questions and would be a true gift.

FAQ: What is the role of the adoption agency once a baby is placed in an adoptive home?
Answer: In Ohio, the adoption agency holds custody of the baby for at least 6 months while the adoptive parent(s) care for the child and the agency monitors the placement. Then custody is transferred to the adoptive parent(s) when the adoption is finalized in court.
