The Onward design system brings the brand’s playful and direct voice to life in physical environments, on marketing and training materials, online in jobs postings and social media, and even in transportation.
We wanted the brand system for Onward to represent caregivers and care receivers on an equal playing field. Everyone wants to navigate life’s twists and turns with confidence and freedom—and no one wants to go it alone. In a crowded sector full of uncomfortable stock photography, we used illustration to visualize the cast of diverse characters involved in Onward’s orbit. It’s all in service of dignity, relatability, and helping any individual see themselves in the brand.

Healthcare should be about people. Especially home healthcare. Onward provides lifelong supported living for individuals with developmental disabilities. They provide a single point of contact for doctors, specialists, caregivers, making it easy for families to get the care they need all in one place. We created a brand system for Onward that positions them as the glue that holds a seamless care experience together. It’s bold, simple, and relatable. And it’s a cheerful reminder that working together makes us stronger.

Taken as a whole, the branding system for The Contemporary Theatre of Ohio contains enough depth to be comic and tragic, buttoned up and casual. As the theatre grows and expands, the visual and verbal repertoire will grow with them.

The visual system for The Contemporary Theatre of Ohio revolves around an expressive type family combined with a strong underlying grid structure and a broad color palette. Combined, these elements give The Contemporary the ability to create a unique feel for each show. The theatre’s primary branding sits on top, making it clear who’s producing the show.

We’re beyond excited to share something we've been a part of for over a year: a new name and brand for The Contemporary Theatre of Ohio (formerly CATCO). A huge thanks to Christy Farnbauch, Leda Hoffmann, and Ed Hofmann and the rest of the board for trusting us to shepherd them into the future. The logo, while simple, is designed to reflect the strong brand typography developed for The Contemporary. And critically, it’s got oomph without stealing the show.

Using the logo and wordmark separately means they can flex and stretch the brand in fun ways across packaging and merchandise. Brand and artwork colors and imaginative layout make for an eye-catching social feed. And all of this paves the way for approachable language rarely seen in the context of fine art.
