Catching Feelings | ART21 Magazine 12/16/2014

With the flood of craft shows during the holiday rush and my studies to become a docent at the columbus museum of art, I have been posting much less. But I am finding the most fascinating information about art. So often, particularly in modern art, we dismiss installations as frivalous, ridiculous wastes of space and a lack of talent. "Why is that in a museum?!" "How is that art?!" I remember seeing this installation and those thoughts crossing my mind. I'm totally fascinated, now that I know the story behind it.

Happier Students, Higher Scores: The Role of Arts Integration 09/24/2014

Happier Students, Higher Scores: The Role of Arts Integration The arts have always had a secondary place in K-12 learning. If you doubt that statement, think of the first programs to go whenever budget cuts are implemented – music, fine arts and even physical ...

Morning Sun 09/14/2014

One of my all time favorite paintings at the Columbus Museum of Art. The simplicity of the subject, the interplay of bright light and shadows, the black of her eye as she stares into the sunlight, unseeing. The emptiness of the room and the vastness of the sky give her a sense of loneliness, but at the same time, she seems somewhat free and relaxed. And I have a real thing for open windows! http://www.columbusmuseum.org/blog/collection/morning-sun/

Intricate Paper Cutouts by Kirie Artist Akira Nagaya | Spoon & Tamago Kirie (切り絵, literally cut paper) is the Japanese art of papercutting. Akira Nagaya is a self-taught artist whose creative roots are, surprisingly, in the culinary world of sushi. Roughly 30 years ago, as a young 20-something, Nagaya was working at a sushi shop. One of his first tasks was to learn sa…

Akira Nagaya Creates Anime Paper Cutouts From Post-Its | Spoon & Tamago When kirie artist Akira Nagaya isn’t creating fantastical paper cutouts of flowers, leaves and other natural objects, he entertains himself with this side-project. Using typical store-bought Post-Its Nagaya cuts out beloved anime characters. Many are from Ghibli films, which he obviously adores. Oth…
