Getting those last few snake cages cleaned…fresh aspen all around!

Did a good cleaning and updated snake enclosures today (minus my three that are on aspen, as I don’t get that until tomorrow)…Abed’s cage got a good cleaning, Tarantulas (yes, you read that right…we now have twelve 8-legged friends!) got water and some got fed! And watered houseplants, repotted some and propagated some cuttings. The Beardie and tortoises got cleaned last week.

Typical Sunday when plants and animals are your hobby! ❤️

Haven’t posted in awhile, but don’t worry…getting ready to freshen things up! Lots of exciting things…new animals…new certification journey…

We’ve gone full lizard this week!!!

Welcome Lyra, our new rescue Beardie! She’s an older gal (estimated around 7 yrs old), so it’s our job to make her remaining years as amazing as possible.
She came with a lot of dried food, so our guess is fresh is new to her. She wasted no time gobbling up dandelion flowers and greens from me. Just gave her a breakfast of endive, cucumber, and peaches. Fresh live cricket run later today for this girl and the toads. Also, she’ll get a bath today as she looks a little dehydrated.

She won’t be the only lizard as of tomorrow, my new Crestie arrives!

More info about the update to the LACEY act. I know when these laws go around most don’t worry because it’s usually just targeting those of us who keep reptiles. This impacts ANYTHING that isn’t a dog or cat. Imagine not being able to move out of state with your pet bird, ferret, or tortoise. Imagine needing veterinary care and the closest vet is across state lines…. And not to mention this will kill the pet trade business and put so many small business owners out of business! I had to explain to Sam that this would mean we couldn’t get frogs this year, and she said “but the local Reptilian Exotics store has frogs.” Yes, and where do you think THEY get them?? Breeders out of state. Aquarium hobbyists will be out of luck.

In addition to our multiple snakes and our tortoises, we have a couple of Fowler’s toads. I want to get into frogs as well this Spring and try doing some bioactives for our amphibian friends…so that will be fun! 🐸
