And now the story begins.

The patient in the outreach text was an 18-year-old baseball player with his entire freshman collegiate season ahead of him this August.

He injured his knee avoiding a tag while stealing a base the night before.

His appointment was at 10:00 AM.

SameDayNextDay! isn’t a tagline. It’s a guiding principle.

When young athletes suffer a significant injury, uncertainty becomes the enemy. The waiting, the wondering, the endless questions of “How bad is it?” and “Will I play again?” can be just as debilitating as the injury itself.

After a thorough history and physical examination, we obtained an immediate MRI. SameDayNextDay means more than simply being seen quickly. It means establishing a definitive diagnosis and creating a treatment plan without unnecessary delays.

Unfortunately, life sometimes has a way of disrupting our best intentions.

The MRI demonstrated an acute ACL rupture, tears of both the medial and lateral meniscus, a low-grade MCL injury, and associated bone bruising consistent with the pivoting mechanism of injury.

Surgery is Friday.

Not because surgery is the finish line, but because recovery cannot truly begin until the path forward is clear and well-defined.

The physical recovery is important.

The mental recovery is equally important.

The mind cannot get out of its own way when it is trapped in uncertainty. Once the diagnosis is established, the plan is in place, and the goal is visible, the athlete can stop wondering and start recovering.

Today, he knows exactly where he stands.

Friday, the reconstruction begins.

And shortly thereafter, the journey back to the baseball field begins as well.

Colleagues sometimes look at me sideways when they learn I give my personal cell phone number to my patients. Ironically, patients never do.

The best referral isn’t generated by a marketing campaign, an advertising budget, or a physician liaison. The best referral comes from a patient who felt heard, cared for, and valued enough to tell someone else, “Call him.”

This text waiting for me this morning brought a smile to my face.

Not because someone needed me, but because somewhere along the way, a patient trusted me enough to share my number with a friend whose son was hurting.

After 25 years, I’ve learned that trust is the most valuable thing we earn. It isn’t built in the operating room alone. It’s built through accessibility, accountability, and being there when patients need you.

For me, that’s always been part of the job.

This is one of those photos that hits differently when enough time has passed.

When they’re little, you never realize you’re living through the days you’ll someday miss. The spontaneous hugs. The arms wrapped tightly around your neck. The feeling that, for a few moments, you were their entire world.

Now at 12, Emersyn’s hugs have evolved into the familiar “side-hug of obligation”—usually delivered on the way to somewhere more important, with friends waiting and life moving faster than either of us would like.

But every once in a while, the curtain slips.

If I accidentally wake her up while saying goodbye at 6 a.m., the real Emersyn shows up. Not the independent young lady she’s becoming, but the little girl who gave hugs like this one. The hugs that make time stand still.

She came home after I was already asleep last night, so this morning I may have “accidentally” woken her up before work.

And for just a moment, I got one of those special hugs again. ❤️

It’s funny how children grow up so quickly, yet somehow their hearts never really change.

🫶 Dad wins this morning. ❤️

When pain takes over your knees, it doesn’t just slow you down, it changes the way you live your entire life. ☀

For Matt Hall, a construction manager, father, and lifelong outdoorsman, that reality became all too familiar. Work sites, fishing trips, even simple movement started to revolve around limitation instead of freedom.

But that’s not where his story ends. ✨

With a focus on clear answers, honest communication, and patient-first care, Matt found a different kind of orthopedic experience, one centered on what he wanted to get back to, not just what showed up on an X-ray.

From his first visit through surgery and recovery, Matt’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing isn’t just about replacing joints, it’s about restoring life, confidence, and independence. 🌈

And today, he’s back to doing what he loves most… without the constant pain holding him back.

☀️ Feeling motivated to get active this summer? That's great, but don't forget to give your body time to catch up.

One of the most common causes of summer sports injuries isn't a bad fall or a freak accident. It's doing too much, too soon.

After a less active winter or spring, jumping straight into long runs, weekend tournaments, daily pickleball matches, or intense workouts can put extra stress on your muscles, tendons, and joints.

The best way to stay in the game?
✔ Start gradually
✔ Increase activity over time
✔ Take rest days when needed
✔ Listen to your body

A little patience now can help prevent injuries later, and keep you active all summer long.
