Last Wednesday, the unimaginable happened. My sister lost her oldest son, Gavin. The family is broken and inconsolable. We have put together a GoFundMe for them to cover whatever expenses arise in the upcoming year—from memorial expenses to medical and work-related costs associated with trying to heal from this loss.

As someone who has survived traumatic loss, I speak from my own experience when I say this—when someone close dies, there are a thousand expenses that crop up that couldn’t have been anticipated. Some are related to memorial expenses, but there are so many others that contribute to the financial burden of grief.

Many specialized trauma specialists no longer accept insurance. Even the ones that do still require costly co-pays that add up quickly when there are three people in the same household who will all need ongoing grief counseling.

People don’t suddenly stop being incapacitated by grief before their PTO runs out.

In my case, I couldn’t stand being so far away from family after loss, so I moved from one state to another.

This family needs all the help our community can provide them.

These are two soulmate sketches I paid for two years apart. For the purposes of this post, I won’t even get into the potential involvement AI might play in these psychic soulmate sketches.

My plan was to purchase several different soulmate sketches from several different psychics to see if any of them would reliably come up with similar results. Because if these are legit, surely at least two separate psychics would come up with a similar looking person, right?

Well, I stopped at purchasing two of them. Because the process turned out to be even more manipulative and predatory than I could have predicted.

Come on, y’all. Look at these two. One looks like he did toothpaste commercials in the 90’s and still lives in his best friend’s basement. The other looks like a morally black main male character from a mafia dark romance novel.

With these transactions, there is a huge emphasis on upselling. A person could spend hundreds of additional dollars to learn more information about their “soulmate.” Adding color to the sketch has a fee attached to it. Determining the backstory and details about the person—even when you are likely to meet—will cost you extra, too. And for what?

To run a Google image search and find out that same sketch I received has also been verifiably sent to other people? Yes.

To be overwhelmed with half a dozen upsell emails crafted to plant fear and doubt about my ability to meet this person on my own…that I need additional readings/rituals or spells to remove barriers to our meeting? Yep.

To be preyed upon for an even steeper investment to bypass my soulmate altogether and go straight to searching for my twin flame? Sadly, also yes.

If you’ve received a soulmate sketch, please post it in the comments section. This makes the image searchable. It’s how I learned that toothpaste guy had been sent to someone else. Let’s invite a whole comment section full of transparency.

New Birthday Tradition: Every year, I’m going to make a piece of art that contains my age somewhere in it. Completely by accident, this one does include my age. I didn’t set out for this to be what it ended up being at all. I was playing with my new paint knives. S**t happened.

I’ve been wanting to paint for months. I saw a fun watercolor exercise on .nelson.art with silly birds on a wire and decided to make some! I snort-laughed while I was doing it. So, that felt right.

Upcoming workshops include Mindfulness Coaching Workshop in April and then Introduction to the Chakras in May (this one is always a crowd favorite!).
