The most recent update regarding legalizing recreational Ma*****na in the state of Ohio. The required signatures for the issue to be on the ballot in November have been met. Voters will now have the opportunity to vote on this issue.
What does this mean for employers?
Employers should consider if there will need to be a revision to the company's policy based on the legalization of recreational Ma*****na.
Another thing to consider is how will the employer handle cases that involve positive drug test results.
Will there be any leniency when an employee tests positive for Ma*****na? Does it depend on the position of the employee? Clerical versus manual labor involving operating machines that would be considered more of a risk if an injury occurs while under the influence.
These are a few of the issues employers should be thinking about as well as speaking with the companies attorney to determine where things stand from a legal standpoint when handling issues that involves a positive drug test and any disciplinary action that the employer would take.
