I've been sitting on the 23rd-century pistol garage kit for over 20 years. I've been working on multiple projects and ended up with extra metal phaser parts while working on a laser/phaser.
I decided to make the garage kit a black and white version of the Phaser and use the extra metal parts. I still need to do touch-up work. It's not the showcase piece I had hoped for, but I'm pleased with how it turned out.
I added a small 5 mw red laser diode to the emitter tube. I have enclosed a rechargeable battery and a charging circuit in the handle, as well as a USB-C charging port on the bottom of the handle/grip. Under the P1 intensity-setting buttons, I installed charge-indicating LEDs. I crammed a soundboard in the P1 and a small speaker in the body of the P2.

Just finished with a DST laser/phaser upgrade. All metal parts from JPL for both the P1 and P2, and a 2 Watt blue laser. I changed from a red to a blue LED on the P1 and painted the P2 body Krylon shadow gray. I sealed up all of the screw holes and the demo slot on the side of the P1. I'm pleased with how this came out, a childhood dream come true. I need to do some minor touch-up; assembly tends to be hard on the paint.
The laser is powered by 2 16340 Li-ion batteries housed in the handle/grip, and the P1 is powered by its original batteries. The laser pulls 1.4 amps while in operation, and, yes, this laser will ignite things.
LLAP, on to the next...
