Our thoughts go out to the Menands Fire Department. Earlier this evening one of their apparatus and the building burst into flames. Many people on social media cannot figure out how a firehouse could have caught on fire because they assume that firefighters are always in the building. All fire departments in the Town of Colonie are made up on volunteers. Members do not stay at the firehouse. When a call comes in they leave their families at the dinner table, opening presents on Christmas morning, or wake up from a sound sleep in their bed to respond. Fire departments in the town are no different than any other building. To Menands Fire Department…Midway Fire Department is here to support you in anyway we can. ❤️🚒🔥💔🙏

On May 9th our department held our annual blood drive. We would like to give a HUGE shoutout to the wonderful people and businesses who donated food and raffle items:
-Inferno Pizza on LK Road donated 5-24 cut pizzas. Two were raffled off and the other three were given to the volunteers at the blood drive for lunch.
-Heat N’ Salt (Wilson Corker-caterer on New Karner Road) donated a delicious tray of brownies and spice cookies. These were given to the people who donated blood throughout the day
-Reliable Brothers (in Green Island) donated 20-1lb. boxes of spaghetti
-Numerous community members and Midway members

Firefighter Shawn Zesewitz has not only returned after a record long tour with the military on the USS Gerald R. Ford, but he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation by Hegseth yesterday. It's the U.S. military's highest collective award, presented to units for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. Midway is so proud of you Shawn!

On Friday evening two of our members completed the Interior Firefighter Operations Course. These two members put in over 120 hours of training over 5 months. Now they are ready to serve our community as Firefighters. Congratulations to Evan Mearkle and Liam Obermayer on this great accomplishment!!! These two men are special for our department. Firefighter Mearkle was our first recruit from Colonie Central High School. He was just a random high school kid that said he was interested, and look at him now! As for Firefighter Obermayer, he is a third generation of Obermayer firefighters at Midway keeping his family’s tradition alive. Great job Liam & Evan! Midway is proud of you! Never stop training! 🚒🧯
