Had the pleasure of training SLMPD Police Explorers a few sessions over the past few weeks as they prepare to leave for a competition. I get just as much out of it as them as it keeps me sharp as well. Good luck to them!!

Had the opportunity to train the SLMPD Police Explorers as they prepare for upcoming competitions. This was the first session to assess where they are and lockdown some basics. It's always a good day with a group that's eager to learn.

Last weekend, I teamed up with two fellow instructors to deliver an energy filled course on Active Threat Response for New Northside Missionary Baptist Church. We covered Response Options, De-escalation, Pre-attack Indicators, Bomb Threats, Bleeding Control, and worked them through Tabletop Exercises...and still had more. Recently conducted a seminar with members of the sister gym of All Saints Muay Thai, where I train. The seminar was on leadership/mentorship and how to apply it to their training, and daily lives. Great group with a lot of questions at the end. I've experienced a lot, personally and professionally. Keeping that all to myself would just be...selfish. You can't live in fear, but you must realize the days of believing you're safe everywhere are done. You just need to be ready when and if you're in that situation.

6 hurt, 2 dead including police officer in Pennsylvania hospital shooting: What to know

Unfortunately, this is and has been, the new normal.

BREAKING: Police in Madison, Wisconsin, said they're investigating a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School.

Multiple injuries have been reported, police said. The shooter is "down," according to Madison police.

Students from kindergarten through 12th grade attend the school.

Watching this hawk perched atop an electric pole; surveying the area. There are 2-3 smaller birds orbiting and attempting to harass it. The hawk is unbothered by them as if they're not even there. In this life, you will be faced with many lesser birds trying to disturb or disrupt you. Be the hawk.

Some devastating news already. Over the years, I've advised officers to not drive to & from work in uniform for all to see you. I used to do it to, but then I either stopped or at least had tinted windows. Same goes for having accessories on your vehicle that identify you as law enforcement. Lastly, you're naive to think they'll wait till you leave the station.

Early this morning, Officer Luis Huesca (Chicago Police Department, IL) was driving home in full uniform after his shift in his personal vehicle. At some point while driving, Officer Huesca was shot repeatedly by unknown suspects. Other officers responded to the area after being alerted by "gunshot detectors" in the area. Officers discovered Officer Huesca laying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead a short while later. After shooting Officer Huesca the suspects took his badge off of his uniform and stole his gun before also stealing his vehicle. The suspects are still at large. Officer Huesca served with the Chicago Police Department for 6 years.
