I got two of these bogus emails this week. This one looks a little more legit, but it's still fake.

1. Random return email address - the domain name was registered by someone in Japan last year

2. Link in the button doesn't go to the USPS

If you even suspect there's an issue with a package you're expecting, either contact your local post office or the sender. DO NOT click on any links or attachments or call any phone numbers in emails.

As always, call us if you even suspect a call, text, pop-up or email is a scam.

Be alert! Don't get scammed!

We like to post these once in a while. This is a fake Paypal email.

Red flags:

1. Paypal will NEVER send a message from a Gmail account - this is the case with any legit company. The first thing to look for is the return email address.

2. Randomly-capitalized words

3. Date is written British-style

4. Poor grammar

5. More poor grammar/punctuation

6. If you do a Google search of this phone number literally the first hit is the official DOJ web site saying it's a scam.

If you do need to contact Paypal or any other company - go to their web site. Don't trust phone numbers or links in emails because they are LITERALLY LYING TO YOUR FACE.

As always, call us if you even suspect a call, text, pop-up or email i a scam.

I cannot stress this enough: if you get a phone call from "Microsoft tech support" it is LITERALLY ALWAYS FAKE.

I hadn't heard anyone getting one of these for a while - it sounded like the scammers were only doing Solar Panel or Medicare scams but I had someone come in today who got a phone call from "Microsoft". And of course they lied to her face and told her that both her phones - cell phone and land line - were also infected and not to use them.

Microsoft hates us. They are not helpful and will NEVER call to let you know your computer has a virus. If you get a pop-up saying you have a virus but to call an 800 number - IT'S FAKE. If you get an email saying your Mcafee or Norton needs to be renewed - IT'S FAKE.

Even if you suspect it's real - CALL US FIRST. Anything computer-related: CALL US FIRST.

Fun fact:

Scammers are a bunch of scumbags.

04/15/2024

If you get a fake virus pop-up, don't call the phone number.

DON'T CALL THE PHONE NUMBER.

What if it's real? IT'S LITERALLY NEVER REAL. DON'T CALL THE NUMBER.

STOP CALLING THE NUMBER

04/01/2024

If you get a "virus warning" and it says to call an 800 number DON'T DO IT. IT IS FAKE. I cannot stress this enough. it is LITERALLY ALWAYS A SCAM.

If you can't get off the screen shut down the computer (hold the power button in for 10 seconds) and restart. If you re-open your web browser and it asks if you want to restore the last web page you were on tell it NO.

Don't click on ads and stick with sites you've heard of. I had three people last month who got the fake virus warning from a sketchy recipe web site. I had another who got it because he was looking for Intuit's web site but spelled it with an extra T.

But most importantly: NEVER CALL THE PHONE NUMBER. They are lying to your face. If you want to give someone $80,000 (like my friend's mom who got scammed for that amount last month) give it to ME. At least I'll put it to good use.

It may be April Fool's day but this is no joke. I still have clients getting scammed every day. If you get a pop-up ad, if you get a weird email, CALL US FIRST. And remember Microsoft tech support, Apple tech support, etc. will NEVER call you.

They're not even trying any more.

Fake Netflix email:

1. Randomly capitalized letters

2. Pretty sure Netflix isn't emailing me from Auburn University

3. can't spell my name correctly

4. My name isn't [Name], oddly enough

5. Poor grammar/spelling

6. Random link that goes to a scammer web site

7. "Unsubscribe" link which goes to the same scammer site

As always, if you're not sure if an email is legit or not, call us first - but trust your judgement. If it sounds like a red flag, it probably is.

One more. This one is so poorly-made, it's hard to believe someone would fall for it, but people sometimes panic and aren't thinking straight.

1. Best Buy/Geek Squad will never use a random Gmail email address.

2. Not even my email address - probably sent it here and BCC'd to thousands of other people.

3. It's a sweet sentiment but I'm pretty sure the Geek Squad wouldn't call me "dear"

4. All-capitalized words

5. Randomly capitalized words

6. Good to know I has renewal successfully.

7. To give toll free #

8. Too lazy or dumb to even call it The Geek Squad

Plus, obviously, I would never use the Geek Squad's services in the first place.

Look for the red flags. And if you're still not sure if it's a legitimate email, call us before you do anything else.

Got a few of these emails over the last few days, so looks like the scumbags have a new scam.

1. Pretty sure the IRS isn't located in New Zealand.

2. Not even sent to my email address - probably sent to the email listed and BCC'd to thousands of other people.

3. Broken graphic link.

4. Link goes to a document on Google Drive.

5. Weird grammar.

Any one of these is a red flag. If you receive an email and you're not sure if it's legitimate, call us before you do anything else.
