🚨 A Vintage Find from the Fire Prevention Office 🚨
This week, while out in the community, we discovered something special...
A smoke alarm from 1982
Now, don't get us wrong, we appreciate a good vintage find as much as anyone. Classic cars, antique furniture, and retro collectibles all have their place. Smoke alarms, however, are one item that shouldn't stay around long enough to become vintage
Here's your friendly reminder:
✅ If your smoke alarm is older than your favorite pair of jeans, it's time to replace it.
✅ If your smoke alarm is beige, yellowed, or "vintage" colored instead of white, it's probably time to replace it.
✅ If your home is more than 10 years old and the smoke alarms are the originals, it's definitely time to replace them.
Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, even if they still chirp or appear to be working. The sensors inside wear out over time and may not provide the early warning your family needs during a fire.
Not sure how old your smoke alarm is? Take it down and look for the manufacturing date on the back. You might be surprised by what you find. If your smoke alarm doesn't have a manufacturing date on it, it's probably old enough to qualify for a senior discount. It's time for a replacement.
Take a few minutes today to check the date on your smoke alarms and make sure they're ready to protect what matters most. ❤️🏠🔥

The Collierville Police Department, Collierville Fire & Rescue, and other public safety agencies will be on-site at West Collierville Middle tomorrow at 7 am for training purposes. You may see a large number of public safety vehicles, such as law enforcement, fire, and medical on the school campus. The Collierville Police Department is simply using the school campus for training.
Thanks to Dr. Dyer, Principal Shaw and Collierville Schools for allowing us to use the school facilities.

Friendly reminder from Collierville Fire & Rescue:
With more e-bikes on our streets and greenbelts, we want everyone to enjoy the ride safely. E-bikes are heavier and faster than traditional bicycles, which means making smart choices is more important than ever for riders of all ages.
Please keep these “Good Neighbor” safety rules in mind before heading out:
1. Protect the Brain. Helmets are a Must!
Our firefighters see first-hand the difference a helmet makes. In Tennessee, helmets are required by law for everyone under 16. Regardless of age, a properly fitted helmet is the single best way to prevent a life-altering injury.
Ensure the helmet is level, snug, and buckled every single time.
2. Be a Good Neighbor on the Trails
Our greenbelts are for everyone: walkers, runners, and families with strollers. Please don’t take up the entire width of the sidewalk or trail. Ride single file when others are present.
Slow down and use caution when passing. Always use a bell or call out “On your left!” when passing and remember some walkers may be wearing headphones or may be D/deaf or hard of hearing and unable to hear you approaching at higher e-bike speeds.
3. Stop the Dart. Predictability Saves Lives!
Drivers often struggle to see e-bikes because they move faster than expected. Avoid darting into traffic or across intersections without looking left and right (just like crossing a street!)
Follow the same rules as cars. Stop at red lights and stop signs, and ride with the flow of traffic, not against it. Wear bright or reflective clothing whenever possible to help drivers, pedestrians, and other riders see you more easily, especially during the evening hours.
4. Keep distractions to a minimum
We have observed young riders using their phones while operating e-bikes, creating a dangerous situation not only for themselves but for pedestrians, drivers, and others around them. Keep your eyes up, hands on the handlebars, and stay focused on your surroundings while riding.
5. Be a Good Neighbor.
Being a "Good Neighbor" means respecting the power of your e-bike. Racing through parking lots or weaving through pedestrians makes others feel unsafe. Let’s keep the fun in e-biking by being the most respectful riders on the road.
Stay safe this summer!

We are proud to share that Collierville Fire & Rescue Fire Education Specialist Jessica Curran was recently featured in Firehouse Magazine, one of the leading national publications in the fire service, for an article highlighting the importance of partnerships between fire departments and school districts.
“Firefighter Jessica,” as she’s known by students in the community, shared how appreciative she is of the relationships built with Collierville Schools and the support from teachers, administrators, coordinated school health staff, and support staff who have not only helped expand fire and life safety programming throughout local schools, but helped her become a better educator.
These partnerships continue to help connect students and families with important safety education while strengthening the relationship between the fire department and the community.
School District Partnerships Are an Untapped Tool for Community Risk Reduction Efforts Jessica Curran says fire departments can extend safety messages beyond the classroom by involving students in safety projects, leveraging community risk data and creating safety...

As EMS Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize the dedicated EMTs, Advanced EMT’s and Paramedics of Collierville Fire & Rescue who serve our community each and every day.
Since establishing its own ambulance service on July 1, 2022, Collierville Fire & Rescue has remained committed to providing high-quality emergency medical care while ensuring crews have access to the training, equipment, and technology needed to meet the expectations of our community.
This week, EMS Chief Joe Lee R**e wanted to personally thank crews for the work they do day in and day out. Each shift was invited to Firehouse 3, where Chief R**e along with Inspector Rashad Weathers, and Inspector Andy Skic cooked hamburgers and hot dogs while crews spent time together enjoying fellowship and camaraderie outside of emergency responses. Firefighters also received a commemorative EMS Week challenge coin in appreciation of their service.
Chief R**e shared:
“When the opportunity came along to recognize our hardworking EMTs and paramedics for EMS Week, we were excited to be able to give back. They are top-notch professionals every day for the citizens of Collierville. Providing the equipment and resources our crews need is a big part of my job, but being able to support them in their journeys and give them the opportunity to sit down, eat, and fellowship together is very rewarding. Our crews deserve it.”
To the men and women serving on our ambulances and fire apparatus thank you for the compassion, professionalism, and care you provide to our community every day.

This past Saturday night, just after 10p.m., B-Shift crews with Collierville Fire & Rescue responded to a reported structure fire in the area of Shelby Drive and Byhalia Road.
Engine companies arrived to find heavy fire showing from a large detached garage located at the rear of the property. Due to the volume of fire and significant fire load crews encountered, firefighters deployed multiple large hand lines and worked aggressively to bring the fire under control.
Thankfully, no firefighters or residents were injured during the incident.
Responding units included Ladder 86, Ladder 85, Engine 82, Engine 81, Engine 83, Unit 86, and Battalion Chief 31.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
We appreciate the quick actions of the resident in reporting the fire and the coordinated efforts of responding crews, our dispatchers and CPD.

That’s a wrap on another year of our Kid Safe fire and life safety programs! 🚒
Throughout the school year, Collierville students participated in hands-on fire and life safety lessons designed to help keep them and their families safe at home, at school, and in emergencies.
Students learned about:
✓ The uniforms firefighters wear and why they wear them
✓ The sounds smoke alarms make at home and at school
✓ Staying safe around things that are hot at home
✓ How and when to call 9-1-1 and questions a dispatcher may ask
✓ “Get Low and Go” under smoke
✓ Having a safe family meeting place
✓ Practicing home fire drills
✓ Spotting hazards and dangers around the home
We wrapped up the year by celebrating everything our students learned with a fire truck visit, certificates, and helmets for our graduates! 👨🚒👩🚒
Thank you to our schools, teachers, families, and students for allowing us to be part of helping build safer habits and safer communities. We are proud of each and every student who participated this year!
