June Employee Spotlight: Meet Baba
This month, we're excited to highlight Baba, Mercy Project's Transport Officer and an important member of our Ghana team.
Baba grew up in Makango, a community along Lake Volta, and spent many years working on boats before joining Mercy Project.
Long before becoming a staff member, Baba partnered with our team as a boat driver, helping transport staff across the lake as they identified and assisted trafficked children.
His dedication, reliability, and deep connection to local communities earned him a full-time position with Mercy Project, and he has been serving faithfully ever since.
While Baba's role may be behind the scenes, his impact is anything but. Our drivers are often among the first to build relationships with fishing communities, helping our team gain access, establish trust, and reach children who need help.
Baba is married to his wife, Sayida, and together they have three children.
We're grateful for team members like Baba whose steady presence, hard work, and heart for others help make freedom possible every day.
Join us in thanking Baba for his dedication to the children and communities we serve.

June Child Spotlight: Meet Alfred 💛
At 17 years old, Alfred is working hard to build a brighter future for himself and his family.
As the oldest son in his family, Alfred is inspired by watching his mother wake up before dawn each day to make and sell bread. Her dedication motivates him to study hard so that one day he can build a shop for her and make her work a little easier.
Alfred is currently in JHS 2 and loves English because it helps him communicate his ideas and better understand the world around him. One of his proudest accomplishments this year was learning how to write formal letters. After carefully studying the dos and don'ts with his teacher, Alfred says he now feels confident enough to write to his Member of Parliament to advocate for more schools in his community.
When he's not in school, you'll likely find Alfred riding his bicycle with friends, watching football at the local park, or helping his family with chores around the house. He enjoys learning new things, spending time with friends, and working toward his dream of becoming a police officer.
Alfred is especially grateful for the teachers who have invested in him along the way. He shares, "Thank you to my sponsor for helping me go to school. Because of what you are doing, I am also moved to help others when I grow up."
Stories like Alfred's are possible because of sponsors who believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and thrive.
There are still children in Mercy Project's program waiting for a sponsor.
