Student athletes face a uniquely complex set of demands. Balancing practice and game schedules, academic responsibilities, social pressures, and performance expectations can strain mental, emotional, and physical well-being of student athletes. Despite growing awareness of athlete mental health, many programs fail to equip student athletes with the practical coping skills and self-awareness needed to navigate these challenges.
This free program addresses those gaps through a structured approach that builds coping self-efficacy and promotes physical and mental wellness. Mindful Athlete creates an accessible and supportive environment where student athletes can honestly engage with their peers and build skills that extend well beyond their athletic and academic careers.
Program Goals:
-To increase confidence and knowledge in managing academic and athletic stress by practicing coping strategies, recognizing when to seek social support, and applying adaptive techniques both during and after the program.
-To reduce feelings of anxiety, burnout, and stress, while building confidence in discussing mental health concerns and accessing wellness resources.
-To promote consistent healthy recovery behaviors including adequate sleep, hydration, nutrition, and active recovery.
-To develop a multidimensional sense of self that extends beyond athletic performance and to feel better prepared to manage setbacks such as injury or competition pressure, and actively explore strengths and interests outside of sport.
