Got sneakers to recycle?

gotsneakers.com recycles sneakers: you register, receive bags, fill bags with sneakers, and send bags back for recycling.

We have not tried it yet but just registered and ordered bags. We hope to be offering this option to the community soon!

For the ones wondering about today's collection service, here's the plan posted by Brevard County Solid Waste Management Department - thank you!

There will be no curbside collection service on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

City of West Melbourne – Monday Residential Customers:
Recycling will be collected on Tuesday, May 26
Trash will be collected on Thursday, May 28
Yard Waste will be collected on Monday, June 1

All other Monday Residential Customers:
Trash will be collected on Thursday, May 28
Recycling & Yard Waste will be collected on Monday, June 1

Brevard County collection disposal facilities will
reopen on Tuesday, May 26.

Mother Earth, animal mothers… all special, caring, giving, and protective 💚 May we celebrate them today and every day 💚

🐾 In May we observe Endangered Species Day 🐾

How practicing the 3Rs help protect endangered species:

1. Reducing consumption and waste protects habitats
Every product we buy requires raw materials and extracting those often leads to deforestation, mining, and pollution. When you reduce what you use, you help limit habitat loss. At the same token, when waste management is improved, we also avoid pollution and littering - both a danger to any species.

2. Reusing slows resource extraction
Reusing items keeps materials in circulation longer. That means less extraction and fewer ecosystems disrupted.

3. Recycling reduces pollution
Recycling prepares already extracted materials to be used multiple times. It reduces the need for mining, logging, and drilling for new material, and saves energy and water in the production of goods, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, slowing climate change — a major threat to humans and other species.

Small daily choices add up. When many people reduce waste and make mindful decisions, it decreases demand for destructive practices and gives endangered species a better chance to recover. One day, we hope there will be no need for an Endangered Species Day.

Realize this is not in Brevard, but what a great re-use of soft plastic.

Oakland Nature Preserve is participating in the TREX recycling program again!

Help them in their efforts - ALL YOU NEED TO DO - is collect soft plastic (SEE FLYER), place in a clear plastic bag and leave by their collection containers on the porch of the education center - 747 Machete Trail Oakland, FL 34760

These are items that cannot go into your regular recycling bin at home, so it’s a win-win situation all round!

Their goal is to collect 1,000 pounds of soft plastic, so they can get another beautiful donated recycled plastic bench for the Preserve.
