Meet the Faculty: Luke Edwards

Luke earned both his B.A. and M.A. in History from UCM (formerly CMSU), with a minor emphasis in Anthropology. His diverse professional background includes work as a counselor, journalist, museum employee, and currently with the Henry County Assessor’s Office.

A passionate historian, Luke enjoys exploring history through travel and lifelong learning. His favorite subjects include the Revolutionary War, English History through the 1700s, ancient history, and archaeology. Outside the classroom, he enjoys astrophotography and watercolor painting.

Now in his fifth year teaching at SFCC, Luke values connecting with students and believes history is a foundational discipline that helps prepare individuals for success in any career path.

Meet the Team: Amy McFarland, Director

Amy McFarland serves as the Director of the State Fair Community College Clinton Campus and is honored to continue the legacy of the late Dara Bigler, the founding director and higher education pioneer who helped establish the campus as a valuable resource for the community.

Originally from Indiana, Amy grew up as a small-town country girl who loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and enjoying adventures with her family. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology and brings more than 25 years of combined experience in criminal justice, social services, and higher education.

Amy, her husband of 22 years, and their two children made Clinton their home in 2022 and have enjoyed becoming part of the community. She especially enjoys welcoming visitors to campus and sharing all that SFCC Clinton has to offer.

“Community colleges play a vital role in helping students achieve their educational goals while remaining connected to their communities. The students on this campus quickly become like family, and seeing them succeed is what motivates me every day.”

Current summer classes on campus include Essentials of Biology, Microbiology, and English as well as a Paramedic bridge course to our YR 2 Nursing program. Our YR 1 Nursing and Surgical Tech students also continue rocking their programs into the summer.

We are currently hosting some Learning Force classes, and we are also planning some community based classes coming soon, so stay tuned!

Meet Our Team: Michelle Slater, Navigator

Hi! My name is Michelle Slater, and I serve as the Student Success Navigator for the State Fair Community College-Clinton campus. In this role, I help students navigate their educational journey by assisting with enrollment, selecting the right degree pathway, and connecting them with resources that support their success.

I have been part of the SFCC Clinton team since November 2022, and this has been the most rewarding position of my career. Our entire staff is committed to helping students succeed in any way we can. We are your biggest cheerleaders, and we are always here to listen, offer guidance, and provide support when you need it.

I am also a proud SFCC graduate. In 2010, I earned my Associate of Arts degree in General Education/Business. As a nontraditional student, I never felt out of place, whether I was attending classes on campus or online. After graduating from State Fair, I transferred to the University of Central Missouri, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Finance.

My family moved to Calhoun in 1993, and I have called this area home ever since. My husband, Justin, and I have been married for 23 years, and we have two wonderful children. Our daughter is currently in middle school, and our son recently graduated in May 2026 with his Associate Degree in Nursing from State Fair Community College.

I look forward to helping students achieve their educational goals and making their experience at SFCC a positive and successful one.

Meet the Faculty: Amber Hansen

Amber Hansen is an Adjunct Instructor at SFCC–Clinton, where she teaches Early Childhood Development and Education courses.

Amber and her husband, Jim, have three children who keep them busy with soccer games and church activities. Their family lives on a farm where they raise cattle and enjoy country life.

When she’s not in the classroom, Amber enjoys spending time outdoors, gardening, and making memories with her family.
