Handmade Darling

Big Cedar Lodge was a dream to be at today. Note to self: bring the umbrella for tomorrow. The sun was hot and fierce on this painting (and me). Every day I’m learning more and more, and I’m thrilled that I was able to cover the entire canvas in 2.5 hours. Progress for this slow painter!

A few decades later, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m getting it right. This time of year is tough for me as I get closer to the anniversary of my Dad’s passing. Losing him after a traumatic injury changed me forever, it altered my brain chemistry. There is the me that existed before his accident, and the person I have become now. I have learned that life is too short to be unhappy, and I’m trying hard to continue to learn what makes life worth living for me. Currently in Missouri, I’m surrounded by likeminded people full of passion, amazing artists, fantastic supplies, and family and friends back home rooting me on as I keep figuring out my next steps.

Painted in the quiet after loss, this body of work is a reflection on the vast skies that surround us and the comfort they now hold. Each piece is an exploration of clouds, light, and atmosphere – an attempt to capture the ever-changing beauty overhead and the stillness it offers below. These paintings grew from a new awareness of looking up, finding connection, memory, and meaning in the skies above.

20 hours into my newest piece, and mixing all the greens I see. This one is taking a long time to figure out. While today didn’t start as planned, everything disappears with a paintbrush in hand. Hoping to finish this one soon. 🖌️ ✨

A glimmer of sunshine as I work in the studios today. When I’m not at the shop or painting or working on the house, I’m working on the Etsy orders that celebrate new babies, new marriages, new adventures, and wonderful memories. Each one is painstakingly checked – every letter, every piece of wood, every glue drop. February was a busy month for elopement signs and I so appreciate y’all keeping my shop busy with orders. While my rentals are still in retirement, I’m actively taking spot calligraphy orders so if you have something in mind, let’s connect! 💛✏️

Back in class today at ! A dedicated 3 hour block of painting and it feels great to be back. What are your favorite things to listen to? Today, dateline and 2020 guided me through my brushstrokes. 🙃🖌️

My last and final batch of hand painted wooden ornaments have been dropped off to today! These have been really special for me to do, and I’m so happy to share them in my shop. Painted with acrylic and gouache, sealed in satin, and finished with a beautiful bow, these ornaments make for a beautiful gift or keepsake. It’s been awhile since I’ve lettered something this long, but I loved working on this piece for a client. Calming blue and serene green, this watercolor will be heading down to Florida as a Christmas present. 🖌️
