reminder: everyyyyy time i make one of these posts there is always at least one self proclaimed expert in the comments tearing down certain sunscreen filters or brands or application methods. this post is NOT about “clean” options or the most aesthetic options. the sole purpose of this post is NON COMEDOGENIC OPTIONS or options that have a very low chance of clogging pores. everyone has a preference of course, but this post is about acne friendly and accessible options for everyone regardless of what sunscreen filters are used or the price. the goal was to find an option for everyone, whether or not its a $8 chemical sunscreen from banana boat or a $40 sunscreen from ulta. im just happy yall are wearing sunscreen lol

acne triggers can be SNEAKYYYY. so many popular and trending products contain certain ingredients that can influence new acne breakouts. these are NOT GUARANTEED to cause breakouts, but it is still a possibility.

KOSAS REVEALER CONCEALER - the concealer you’re using to cover up your breakouts could potentially be adding to the problem and making your acne worse. containing 3 pore cloggers that could possibly be making your skin worse.

RHODE GLAZING MILK - we all want hydrated, dewy skin. BUT this product contains a concentrated derivative of coconut oil as the third ingredient, meaning its pretty heavily concentrated in the product. the ingredient alone can definitely trigger acne, especially when used in such a high concentration in a formulation.

DAE CACTUS FRUIT STYLING CREAM - noticing breakouts along your hairline or forehead after doing slick backs? this product contains 4 pore cloggers that can definitely cause some clogged pores and breakouts especially if you’re not washing your hair after using and sleeping in the product.

NUTRAFOL HAIR & SKIN SUPPLEMENTS - hair thinning and hair loss can be a very vulnerable situation to be in, but majority of hair supplements contain a very large amount of b vitamins. nutrafol contains 3000 mcg of biotin, which is 10,000% the recommended daily value. biotin influences the production of new skin cells which can lead to acne. acneic skin already produces 5x the amount of necessary skin cells so when its paired with a supplement that heavily increases cell production, breakouts thrive.

ALANI NU ENERGY DRINKS - caffeine alone can create an inflammatory response within the skin, but certain energy drinks contain excessive b vitamins which can further create inflammation and breakouts in the skin. opting for drinks without the added b vitamins is best!

CREATINE SUPPLEMENTS - creatine is highly effective for increasing muscle mass, performance and muscle recovery. while naturally occurring in foods, in excess creatine also increases our DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels. DHT is a potent androgen hormone that increases oil production which clogs pores and feeds acne causing bacteria.

the power of a good facial & extractions. this is why i always push extractions if i feel as if you can benefit! extractions generally are not everyone’s favorite part lol but they are so so worth it if you can tolerate them. ill always do my best to be as gentle as possible but everyone tolerates everything differently!

non inflamed acne can take significantly longer to clear than your typical inflamed acne, especially without the help of extractions. with comedonal acne (blackheads, whiteheads), bacteria is present but the bacterial activity is significantly lower than with inflamed acne. with inflamed acne, your skin’s immune system’s response to the bacteria is inflammation, treating it like an injury.

generally with comedonal acne, you’ll either need extractions or exfoliating ingredients in your routine in order to clear out the pores. while comedonal acne can go away on its own, it typically takes a veryyyy long time without any additional help.

for those who dont know or are new here, my name is kelly, im 25 and ive been an esthetician since 2018. my fur baby koda (3) is my soul dog and entire world. im also an auntie to the absolute sweetest, best nephew in the universe. theres nothing i love more than being his auntie

outside of work i love spending all my free time with my dog, my nephew, going on walks, doing pilates and reading. reading is one of my favorite hobbies, if im at home im most likely reading lol. i typically read anywhere from 10-20 books a month 📖
