The real winners of the 2024 Shock and Save Golf Classic were the Macomb Elks Club, who were awarded this Automated External Defibrillator. Training and installation will be performed by the Medstar staff.

These lifesaving devices are made possible by grants through the Shock and Save Initiative and by our generous sponsors. If your non-profit organization would like to apply for an AED grant, fill out this grant application: https://www.medstarambulance.org/aed/

Again, thank you to our sponsors, our golfers, Greystone Golf Club and to our Medstar team for making the 2024 Golf Classic one to remember.

Yesterday's storms broke branches, toppled trees and sent debris flying in all directions. Many residents are still without power. If you have a downed power line in your neighborhood, please remember:

Stay at least 25 feet away from a downed power line and anyone or anything in contact with it, even if there are no sparks. A live wire may whip or sweep through a wide area looking for a ground. A ground is the earth or something touching the earth, like a fence, puddle or even a tree. A live wire that has already found a ground may lie silent, but be equally deadly.

Call DTE immediately at 800.477.4747 if you see a downed power line.

This was a great week for the Medstar team. We are proud to certify these 28 dedicated healthcare professionals. 18 will be serving in our Southern Operations and 10 in our Northern Operations.

Paramedics are the highest level of EMS provider, capable of advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities, utilizing advanced airway, cardiac, and other specialized clinical equipment, medications, and procedures.

They averaged nearly 650 hours of classroom instruction, 280 hours in ambulances and Emergency Rooms and 250 hours in their Capstone Externships. The required number of clinical hours to graduate is 530, our students averaged over 600. In total, they invested over eleven hundred hours in the course, while still working their regular EMT shifts.

Congratulations on a job well done. You persevered and your patients will reap the rewards.

When someone’s heart suddenly stops beating, every minute without defibrillation and CPR lowers the chance of survival by nearly 10%. When a bystander uses an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on a person in cardiac arrest, their likelihood of survival doubles.

To that end, we are hosting our 4th Annual Shock and Save Golf Classic on Thursday, September 12th at the Greystone Golf Club.

We are entering the final stages of completion of our new Detroit deployment and education facility! All rough inspections have been received, and we now moving into finishes for walls, ceiling and floor coverings.

The facility will house 30 ALS, BLS, NICU, and critical care ambulances, crew lounge and make-ready area, dispatch and EOC facilities, clinical quality assurance team offices, a 4,800 square foot education, training and high-fidelity simulation lab, as well as community CPR, AED, and STB training space.

Rehabilitating a 102-year-old building and preserving the automobile production and marketing history, as well as artifacts found in the building, has taken some time and effort! The close-up and finishes, as well as external and parking completion phase is here, and we are excited to see the facility move closer to coming on line.

When someone’s heart suddenly stops beating, every minute without defibrillation and CPR lowers the chance of survival by nearly 10%. When a bystander uses an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on a person in cardiac arrest, their likelihood of survival doubles. Medstar recognizes community AED placement as the most important component of increasing cardiac arrest survival throughout its eleven-county service area.

The recent expansion of our “Shock and Save” community AED initiative is off to a fantastic start. Through three charity golf outings, we have raised over $200,000, with Medstar matching another $200,000, providing 220 AEDs throughout our service area, and over 1400 hours of CPR and AED training at no cost!

Join us the 4th Annual Golf Classic on Thursday, September 12th at Greystone Golf Club and lets tee off to save a life!
