Through entrepreneurship, health, community development, the arts, social change and more, their work has opened doors, sparked new possibilities and shaped the city we know today.

This week’s Cleveland 230 honorees helped shape Cleveland through a tradition of giving that continues today.

Their support strengthened organizations, expanded opportunities and helped build a better Cleveland.

This week’s honorees are:

#130 Samuel Mather - A wealthy business leader with a commitment to philanthropy, he helped establish Cleveland’s Community Chest, a precursor to United Way.

#131 Amasa Stone - He was a railroad magnate who funded Western Reserve College’s move to Cleveland and endowed Adelbert College in his son’s memory.

#132 Severance Family - They left behind an enduring cultural legacy through their support of Cleveland Orchestra, Cleveland Museum of Art and other institutions.

#133 Chuck and Char Fowler - Through their family foundation, the couple works to build a society “in which every person can live their version of a fulfilling life.”

#134 Darrell and Ronna McNair - Combining business leadership with philanthropy, the McNairs have made significant contributions to strengthen local nonprofits.

#135 Albert Ratner - The former CEO of Forest City Realty Trust is a longtime leader in Cleveland’s business, civic and Jewish communities.

#136 Jeptha Wade - A founder of Western Union Telegraph, he was a land owner and civic leader who helped establish several University Circle institutions including Lakeview Cemetery.
