Important reminders from the Red American Red Cross:

June is a meaningful time to reflect on the impact of community support in saving lives.

As we come together to recognize meaningful moments such as Dr. Charles R. Drew’s birthday on June 3, as well as World Sickle Cell Day and Juneteenth on June 19, we’re reminded of the progress we have made, the resilience that defines our communities, and the continued need to advance health equity through blood donation and collective action.
Blood donors who are Black are almost 3 times more likely to be a match for the blood most needed by patients with sickle cell disease
As we head into summer, the need for blood remains urgent — especially for patients who rely on regular transfusions. Learn how participation from the Black community plays a critical role in supporting patients with conditions like sickle cell disease and ensuring compatible blood is available when it’s needed most.
