“Thank you to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From our beginnings as Joy Division to the evolving journey of New Order, this accolade reflects the resilience across nearly five decades that has defined our path alongside our fans, our collaborators and those sadly no longer with us. Also to everyone who has listened, supported and continued to carry our music forward. Not bad for a couple of bands that were never entirely sure what they were doing…”

“I refuse to come back as a bug or as a rabbit...”
New Order’s ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ video from 1986 was directed by experimental artists Robert Longo and Gretchen Bender, mixing pop art with conceptual art and popular culture.
Upon its release, Michael Stipe of R.E.M. was so inspired by the video that he requested Longo to direct the clip for what would become one of their defining tracks – ‘The One I Love’ – in 1987.
remembers: “We wanted to upset the visual language of videos and I saw the video he did for New Order’s ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ where he interrupts it about two-thirds of the way through with a scene out of a movie, where a woman stands up at a table and says, “I don’t believe in reincarnation because I refuse to come back as a bug or as a rabbit”, and a guy goes... “You know, you’re a real ‘up’ person,” and then it slam-cuts back into the song. I don’t think anyone had ever interrupted a song, cut to something else, and then cut back to the song!”

‘Temptation’ was originally released by New Order as a single in 1982, and then in 2006 long-term collaborator Michael Shamberg along with Steven Lippman directed a video titled ‘The Temptation of Victoria’, featuring Victoria Bergsman of Swedish band The Concretes. The seven minute film is dedicated to British filmmaker Michael Powell (1905-1990).

“…Animal Farm has become the classic political fable of the twentieth century. George Orwell tells the story of a revolution among animals of a farm, and how idealism was betrayed by power, corruption and lies.”
