Rust Belt Riders

Rust Belt Riders is honored and excited to announce our recent partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank! For over 30 years, the GCFB has been connecting people in Northeast Ohio to nutritious food and health resources. We are proud to now help them close the loop on food waste by composting any items that cannot make their way into the hands of those in need.

The primary focus of our program with the GCFB is their Community Resource Center, located at 15500 South Waterloo Rd. on the east side of Cleveland. This resource center is a “one-stop shop” for community members where they can find food assistance along with a variety of other resources like housing, employment and healthcare.

RBR and GCFB are aligned in our belief that access to nutritious food is a basic human right, and our hope is that all food products make their way into the hands of our neighbors in need. When this becomes impossible, due to food expiration or any other reason, Rust Belt Riders is honored to step in and repurpose this organic material into a nutrient rich soil that will improve our environment and grow more food for our region.

We are proud to work with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and to help uphold their value of being good stewards of our community and its resources. We look forward to continuing to work with them towards healthier lives and a healthier environment here in Northeast Ohio.

DM with questions!

“When added to soil, compost can filter out urban stormwater pollution by 60–95%.”

By holding 5X its weight in water, compost slows water runoff, storing more water in our groundwater tables and keeping it available for plants during periods of drought.

With more and more major storms on the horizon, it’s time we get serious about compost application and becoming part of the solution. We don’t have to experience intense water runoff and major flooding events every time a heavy rainfall comes.

Consider adding compost where you can. From a small patch in your tree lawn to acres of farmland, every bit helps.

Thank you to Institute for Local Self-Reliance and Community Composter Coalition for the readily available statistics.
