Sometimes I don’t want to use the word to describe what I do. It’s a new word for something that has been around forever! It just using what you’ve got. Saving scraps so they can stay out of the garbage and making things that look “just ok” into something that says “WOW”
Or just something you can’t find anywhere else.
Sometimes things just need some elevation!

I am trying to train AI to make me a pattern from front and back photos. Bloomers are trendy right now … so I plan to make some with the left over bedsheets from the previous dress.

This will open up my ability to create what I want - cut down on my time and allow me more time to create!

A lot of my projects don’t make it because it is a long process of:

1. Idea
2. Scouring the internet for patterns that look close to what my idea is
3. Finding other patterns, mix and matching or altering the ones I already have to fit the idea
4. Planning and cutting the fabric to fit the pattern requirements
5. Making

Not to list the time spent doing all of these steps was a choice. I would say steps 1-3 could often take weeks but more likely months.

** mind you: Designers and Makers should but don’t often take or ask for compensation for the research and development phase because customers are so focused on materials and cost of making the actual product. They try to haggle you, have bloated expectations and think that because “you enjoy it” they shouldn’t have to pay a fair market price.
(Let’s blame fast fashion and industrialized factories!! Even though there are many more components)

So please moving forward… when you buy from a local or skilled maker, please be complimentative rather than use any of your own justifications on what they should or shouldn’t do. It’s just not cute!
Just apply those thoughts to your own work. If you don’t make… smile and move on.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Just another dress I made out of discarded fabric…
(I recently got a king size mattress. This means all the queen size sheets I have were probably going to get discarded.)
Used sheets aren’t always the most sought after item at the resale shop, plus these were well worn! So I made a decision to keep them for this exact reason.

Since I really enjoyed the print on them and they are also mine, I decided to work through a new pattern using them for a dress for myself! This way they are being upcycled and not thrown into a landfill. But also I am glad this print looked so nice as a dress. It is also soft like bed sheets… duh

This is a fairly simple and good looking pattern so I will probably start to make a version of it as a sleep dress for
