Today was a great day on the grounds of the Ohio Statehouse Sandra Williams Stephanie Kunze. We broke ground today! For the first time ever, Ohio will have an Ohio Women’s monument at the Statehouse. To date, the Statehouse only had monuments honoring men. Thanks to all of the members that served on the commission. The commission was created to come up with ways to educate Ohioans on the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.”

“The idea for the Ohio Women’s Monument came from a commission that was established in 2019, thanks to bipartisan legislation sponsored by former state senators Stephanie Kunze of the Columbus area and Sandra Williams of Cleveland. The commission was created to come up with ways to educate Ohioans on the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, ratified in 1920, which gave women the right to vote.”

“The monument will contain four columns topped with sculptures representing Ohio women. Names of influential Ohio women, as well as dates of events seminal to women’s rights and freedoms, will be inscribed on each column.”
