In a major step forward for our industry and public safety, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation has officially advanced the Alex Gate Safety Act. This bipartisan legislation—named in honor of 7-year-old Alex Quanbeck—directs the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to establish and enforce strict safety standards for large, potentially hazardous gates, including simple requirements to prevent devastating falling gate tragedies. The International Code Council has wrapped up its three-year code review process, and major updates are heading our way in the upcoming 2027 I-Codes. DASMA staff actively tracked 45 code changes of critical interest to our industry, securing two major wins:
✔️ Wind-Load Tables Approved: DASMA’s proposal to add crucial wind-load tables to the International Residential Code (IRC) was successfully approved.
✔️ Gate Safety Win: All four gate safety proposals submitted by the American Fence Association and cosponsored by DASMA were fully approved.
