Here are some more from BAR’s Defaced Album Cover archives. These are all BEATLES albums. I love this REVOLVER sleeve. “Keep Your Faith…”.

I have come across so many DEFACED Beatles covers through the years. Why do you think so many were defaced and by who? My theory is that most were defaced by the siblings of the person that bought the records. Knowing how much they loved the records, the siblings just wanted to F with them.

From the BLUE ARROW DEFACED ALBUM COVER archives, I present to you THE BEATLES WHITE ALBUM. Such a perfect canvas to express one’s love for PAULIE McCARTNEY. Or maybe drawing a portrait of JOHN LENNON.

Here’s a couple more from my ALBUM COVER DEFACEMENT vault. These fall into the category of “stalker defacement.” Upon our first inspection of the album, it became quite clear that the original owner must’ve been a young teen female who was in love with SIR PAIL. So much so that she obsessively despised Linda, who was defaced wherever her pictures where. Even went after her name. When you think about what drove someone to such behavior, it is really very creepy. But nevermind that. I’m sure that she grew out of that phase. The fine folks at the Rock Hall want you to have a pair of tickets to see OLD 97’s on Thursday, August 27th. All you have to do to be eligible to win the tickets is tell me your favorite OLD 97’s song. I will draw the wining name on August 14th at 2 pm.

Prior to the event, BLUE ARROW RECORDS is sponsoring A CALL FOR ARTIST to enter a ALBUM COVER DEFACEMENT CONTEST.

WHAT:  Use your artistry to creatively deface an album cover of your choosing.  (You can either pick up a cover from Blue Arrow, or submit one that you have defaced to Blue Arrow).
WHEN: You can pick up untarnished album covers anytime during regular OPEN HOURS OF OPERATION (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 12-4pm)
DEADLINE:  DROP OFF your personally enhanced covers to Blue Arrow by 4PM on Friday, August 21 (you can drop off your entry anytime during open hours).
ENTRANTS: All entrant pieces will be presented at the opening where the attending public can vote on their favorite piece.  The winning piece will be announced at 7:30pm.  
PRIZE:  The winning entrant will receive a $50 gift certificate from Blue Arrow Records.

It’s MONDAY MONDAY, so I am presenting one of my favorite defaced album covers featuring the “ERASER METHOD” of defacement. I find it fascinating that the artist spared Michelle Phillipps the hair makeover, but instead decided to give her left buttock a spot erasing (WHY DUDE?). Slide two is a close-up of “Santa Claus effect” make-over. Slide 3 is provided to give you an example of what they looked like prior to the make-over. And, lastly slide 4 shows the original album cover and features the group in a bathroom, sitting in a bathtub with a toilet in the corner. Apparently, these were pulled from stores after the toilet was judged indecent. Typical 1960s censorship. MEET THE RESIDENTS. Not only is it a great “homage album cover”, it is an actual DEFACED ALBUM COVER used by the artist for their official release. (Can anyone think of any other artist to use a DEFACED COVER on their official release? If so, please leave a comment.). Greg, a Cleveland native who now resides in LA, will be flying in to share with us his passion for the defaced album covers. The box of album covers were shipped to us last week and I can testify that these are amazing.

HELLO CLEVELAND. On this day, 51 years ago, TELEVISION performed the first of two nights The Piccadilly Inn. Apparently, it was their first gigs outside of NYC. The first photo seen here was taken by legendary Cleveland photographer Bob Farrell. Bob used to photograph for SCENE magazine, which was a co-sponsor of the gig. It blows my mind that this event happened a full year and a half prior to the release of their debut album. It is my understanding that Peter Laughner organized the gig and he subsequently recorded the gig. Slides 2-4 were from SCENE, July 24-31, 1975. Slides 5 and 6 are of the ticket stubs for each night. Slides 7 and 8 are from SCENE July 31-August 6, 1975 and features a rather terse review of the gig. Slides 9 and 10 are from youtube. I encourage everyone to look up the gig and give it a listen. It is amazing. I included a clip of PSYCHOTIC REACTION because of the quote from Patti Smith used in the ad seen in slide 2. “They play pi**ed off psychotic reaction.”
