Did You Know? Austin Powder is Investing Millions in Proactive Safety Initiatives
At Austin Powder, safety is the foundation of every decision we make and every process we design. Our commitment extends beyond compliance. Our goal is to eliminate high-consequence risks through engineering excellence, disciplined ex*****on, and continuous learning. Whether through remote operation that physically separates people from energetic materials, the transition away from hazardous substances like TNT and lead azide, or the adoption of advanced tools such as Paradigm for data-driven blast design, we consistently invest in solutions that strengthen protection for our employees, customers, and communities.
We reinforce competence and accountability through immersive programs like the University of Flyrock Prevention, and we advance transportation safety by integrating telematics, in-vehicle monitoring, and simulator-based training. Across all operations, our SHES Management System guides proactive risk identification, structured prevention, and leadership oversight.

Building momentum. Driving impact. Delivering results.
Austin Powder’s Global Sustainability Team recently came together in Lisbon to align strategy, share progress, and accelerate ex*****on across our ESG initiatives.
“A clear message emerged early on,” says Nadia Engler, Global Sustainability Manager, “sustainability is no longer a parallel agenda—it is a core driver of business value.”
Across regions, teams are advancing initiatives that support efficiency, reduce environmental impact, strengthen compliance, and improve operational resilience. In total, 37 new projects were introduced, demonstrating how sustainability is being embedded into everyday decision-making.
The results speak for themselves, expanding production while reducing environmental intensity and improving safety performance.
At Austin Powder, sustainability is not just about doing what’s right, it’s about delivering measurable performance and long-term value.

Meet Andrew Schmidt, Digital Integration Manager, Austin Powder Company.
Underground blasting decisions shouldn’t rely on guesswork. With Paradigm, Austin Powder’s Technical team helps mining operations visualize, analyze, and optimize underground blast design before detonation.
Using mine scans from LIDAR, photogrammetry, and other sources, teams can compare design vs. actual drilling and charging, track advance across multiple scans, and evaluate energy distribution at the toe of the blastholes.
The result: better visibility, better control, and greater confidence that the blast will perform as designed.

Delivering precision. Protecting communities. Advancing infrastructure.
Austin Powder is proud to support the successful relocation of Highway 59 in Arkansas, overcoming complex geotechnical challenges with advanced blasting and data-driven design.
Through 29 carefully engineered blasts and the use of Paradigm modeling and E*STAR electronic initiation systems, our team safely removed more than 185,000 tons of material while maintaining strict vibration control near surrounding residential areas.
The result:
• Zero safety incidents
• Minimal disruption to traffic
• A more stable, long-term roadway solution
This project is a powerful example of how technical expertise, innovation, and collaboration come together to solve complex challenges—while keeping safety first, always.

Improving environmental performance requires continuous improvement across operations.
At Austin Powder, our environmental strategy focuses on risk management, innovation, and responsible environmental management.
At our USN facility, this approach is embedded from the design stage. US Nitrogen was engineered using Best Available Control Technologies (BACT) to achieve a high degree of reduction from emission sources.
Building on this foundation, we continue to invest in GHG emissions control. Our current abatement system already reduces approximately 85% of N₂O emissions, and we are now upgrading the catalyst to increase abatement efficiency to 95% or more.
This initiative goes beyond regulatory requirements and reflects our commitment to continuously improve how we manage environmental impacts across our operations.
