So far in 2026, 853 Hispanic/Latino individuals have given the gift of life through living organ donation.

Hispanic/Latino individuals represent nearly 17% of all living organ donors this year. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate these living donors and the extraordinary impact of their generosity.

DMV offices across the country give people the opportunity to register as organ, eye, and tissue donors when they apply for or renew a driver’s license or ID. In fact, the DMV plays a major role in connecting people with their state donor registry.

Every “yes” has the potential to save and heal lives. Thank you to DMV teams for helping make those lifesaving decisions possible every day.

Observed from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of those whose families came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. We invite you to help us honor the legacy of Hispanic and Latino donors, recipients, healthcare professionals, and community leaders who continue to shape a more inclusive and lifesaving system.

So far this year, 1,306 donors from these communities have given the ultimate gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation. There are also over 28,000 people from the Hispanic/Latino community currently on the national transplant waiting list. National DMV Appreciation Month recognizes the vital role of DMVs and Driver License Partners (DLPs) in saving and healing lives by asking customers the donor registration question every day. Our DMV partners are the people on the front lines of service who have helped more than 170 million people across the country register their decision to be a deceased organ, eye and tissue donor.
