We wanted to share a sad update about Beebe, the sweet guinea pig who recently became part of our Second Chance Program.
When Beebe arrived at the Cleveland APL, our veterinary team discovered multiple painful bite wounds on his chin, back, and leg. Despite treatment with antibiotics and pain medication, several of his injuries developed into abscesses that required specialized surgical care.
After consulting with a specialist, surgery was determined to be the best option to relieve his pain and give him the chance at a healthy future. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Beebe received the care he needed and underwent surgery yesterday.
Tragically, during the procedure, Beebe went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
Our hearts are broken. This is not the outcome we hoped for, and we know many of you were rooting for this little guy after hearing his story.
While Beebe's time with us was far too short, we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support he received. So many people cared about him, donated on his behalf, and wanted to see him recover. Your compassion gave Beebe the opportunity to receive the critical care he needed and the chance he deserved.
Please know that donations made to help Beebe will continue to support other animals who arrive at the Cleveland APL sick, injured, and in need of their second chance.
On behalf of Beebe and all the animals we care for, thank you. β€

A huge thank you to Edith, Brooklyn, and Campus International School for supporting the Cleveland APL! πΎβ€οΈ
These thoughtful students collected pet toys and supplies to help the animals in our care. Their kindness will help provide comfort, enrichment, and lots of happy tails and purrs.
We are so grateful for their generosity and dedication to helping animals in need. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our shelter pets!

Looking for a low-key best friend? You have to meet darling little Smudge! π€
This 13-year-old lady is currently in a foster home and is all about the soft life. She loves curling up in your lap and and sleeping. Like any queen, Smudge can be a little stubborn when she's found the perfect hiding spot under the bed but offer her some snacks and sheβs all yours.
Smudge is the kind of cat who quietly steals your heart. She'll softly paw at your hand when she'd like some attention and happily settle in beside you for an afternoon of relaxing. She's not interested in chaos or drama, just a peaceful home where she can enjoy her peace and quiet.
If your lap has been missing something, fill out a cat adoption survey below to set up a time to meet Smudge. She canβt wait to mee you!
