On another installment of āWhat is the Syatt Civics cohort up to? ā Thursday we attended the State of the Environment hosted by .
Our girls sat front and center as , Jazmin Long and Michael Jeans from Growth Opps spoke life, hope, and power into them. Thank you for recognizing that young people were in the room and making this event relevant to them. Our cohort had lots to say about the event! They are fired up! Stay tuned to see where we go next!
Johnston Run Nature Corridor Loading! Huge thank you to our friends at for leading our BioBlitz today and helping to identify the amazing species, century old trees, and invasives that call Johnston Run home. Also, shout out to our Syatt Civics cohort members for getting down and dirty today as we shape this EJ project and brainstorm policies that could support and sustain this work!

Tuesday started off with a visit to the polls to VOTE! Then we put our educator hats onā¦grading papers, making adjustments to assignments, and reviewing student presentation drafts.
Then we had an internal meeting of the minds on all things strategy, summer program planning, and connecting loose ends.
After that, we headed downtown for a meeting with one of our faves, County Executive Ronayne.
And what else is there to do on a Tuesday that falls on the 5th of May? Yup, we ended the day celebrating/refueling with family and friends.
Itās called work-life balance! ā¤ļø

For those of you hanging out with us this week, hereās a quick rundown of todayā¦
We had five, yes FIVE meetings. Please donāt ask how that happened, but we started the week strong. We spent time planning for the Fresh Water Institute Fellowship, working to create Ah-Mazing job shadowing experiences for participants, AND putting the final touches on our summer immersive experience with our co-facilitators, Teaching Cleveland.
We also connected with partners on projects that focus on building strong(er), thriving communities.
After a very short afternoon break (and another cup of coffee), we made our way to Cleveland Heights High School to work with our night school students. We absolutely love the teachers and staff connected to this program and want to send a huge thank you your way. Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!! Whoo hoo! Also, shout out to our ābossmanā Mr. Walker for being a great role model for the students. The care that you have for these babies is felt every time weāre in the room with you.
Made it home just in time to cook dinner, relax a bit, and finish up some grading.
If youāre part of a school or district where students could benefit from more engaging, hands-on learning, reach out. We design standards-aligned experiences that support student engagement, confidence, and academic growth.
See ya tomorrow!

This weekend was a reminder that Syatt is more than youth recreational opportunities. Syatt is about connection, education, access, and creating a better future WITH (not for) our communities.
On Saturday, we were on the Southeast side of Cleveland for Canalway Partners' 2026 River Sweep. We worked alongside workers representing Pipefitters Local 120, residents from Miles Heights (Miles Heights Development Corporation ), Syatt family and friends, and juniors and seniors from Brecksville-Broadview Hts Heights High School to care for the Johnston Run tributary.
We followed that up with water safety and beginner swim instruction at Cleveland State University in partnership with Buckeye HEAL! Shoutout to Cleveland State University's Swim the Gap program. This work allows us to teach water safety and help to change the culture of Cleveland into a true coastal city where our people feel safe around and connected to the water.
This is also part of our work with the Cuyahoga County's Freshwater Institute, where weāre helping shape the next generation of leaders who understand and protect our greatest resource.
Sooo, what did you do this weekend?
Here's an idea, this week follow along as we share more about the work Syatt does beyond what you may already know.
