Friday I volunteered at the City Rescue Mission’s men’s shelter. It was something I decided to step out and do on my own. I’ve reported on homelessness and service work before, but nothing compares to offering your own time and presence. This was a first as an adult, it reminded me how much showing up matters. Not for recognition but because people deserve care, dignity, and presence.

In Cleveland, Pride isn’t limited to a month —our communities are seen, valued, and celebrated every single day. 🌈

Join us on Saturday, June 7, 2025, for Pride in the CLE®—a celebration of love, equality, and community. The Pride march kicks off at 11:00 AM from Public Square, followed by a full day of music, performances, food, and fun at Mall B & C.

For more details, visit lgbtcleveland.org/pride. See you there!

It’s Pride Month. And NO ONE within the LGBTQ+ community should be telling someone else who is also within the LGBTQ+ community to “make our stories more than just about Pride Month.” Especially during Pride.

As a reporter for WILX News 10, I’ve spoken with LGBTQ+ city officials, community members, advocates & more. I only mention someone’s gender identity or sexual orientation in a story when it actually adds value or context because being LGBTQ+ doesn’t automatically require an extra label. We’re people, and we deserve to be treated like everyone else in how our stories are told.

So when a member of our community has the opportunity to speak because it’s Pride Month, and they’re visible because of this moment DON’T DIMINISH THAT!

When you discourage people from sharing their experiences, you create silence. And when people stop telling their stories, we lose representation. And representation is the foundation of equality.

So as Pride stories roll out this month, remember: visibility matters. Representation matters. And our voices matter even when they only get the spotlight once a year.
