Today we’re gathering to inaugurate PRISM: Seeing Beyond Mass Incarceration at the Cleveland Public Library, Martin Luther King Jr. Branch.

This afternoon brings together artists and practitioners who have been working to shift systems and conversations:

12pm – Grounding with Gwendolyn Garth 
12:15pm – Music and Mass Incarceration with Bakari Kitwana / Rap Sessions and Brittany Benton 
1pm – Keynote: Gary Tyler in conversation with Ayesha Bell Hardaway
2pm – PRISM artists Aaron D. Williams, Da’Shaunae Marisa, and Sherrill Roland, moderated by Fanna Gebreyesus 
3pm – The Marshall Project’s Inside Story with Lawrence Jah Bartley and Louis Fields
4pm – Meditation, sound bath, and time to connect

Mass incarceration touches families and neighborhoods across Cleveland. PRISM makes room to reckon with that impact and to imagine what safety and justice could look like beyond it, grounded in the perspectives of people with lived experience.

Join us from 12–5pm. The event is free, refreshments will be served, and walk-ins are welcome, but registration is preferred. Parking is available in the Artisan Garage behind the library.

👀✍️ Join us on Monday October 5th for Sarah Tuttle’s (Sarah Tuttle) community event: Drawing at The Community Garden! We will be arranging bouquets of flowers and creating ink washes of them!

✨ Don’t be scared—all skill levels ages 12+ are welcome, and no need to bring anything! You are welcome to bring your favorite drawing utensils and sketchbook if you want!

Yesterday, we joined Park(ing) Day in downtown Cleveland, where a stretch of Prospect Ave became a place for people instead of just cars. We hosted a “Sketch with LAND” pop-up and loved chatting and drawing with everyone who stopped by!!

Park(ing) Day is an international celebration of reclaiming street parking spots as pop-up parks and green spaces. It’s a small, playful way to imagine what our public spaces could be when we rethink how they’re designed and used. ✍️💡💭

Big thanks to Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative, CSU APA, Kent State College of Architecture + Environmental Design - CAED, and all the partners who made this day possible!

This year Park(ing) Day is brought in partnership with Downtown Cleveland Inc., the City of Cleveland, OHM, ASLA Ohio, LAND Studio, APA OH Cleveland Chapter, Making Our Own Space (MOOS), and CSU’s Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs. Thank you to all of our 2026 partners!

Park(ing) Day is an international day to recognize and celebrate reutilizing paved on-street parking spaces for higher and better uses.

This year there is a collective effort from Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design Master of Landscape Architecture Program (KSU CAED MLA), Cleveland State University’s American Planning Association student chapter (CSU APA), and KSU’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC) to hold Park(ing) Day in downtown Cleveland.
