The original concept of the band was playing music we all enjoyed from The Beatles on thru the 60's, 70's and on. We will continue and have an eclectic mix of tunes based on all four voices in this new 4-man band. It has been a blast working with great singers!!! Just for fun here are some You Tube finds of the music of our lives from around the world. See you all soon!

Until it is safe for audiences and bands to perform again. I will use this BU4 Face Book page for a history on the band. The first time the band name, Bluestone Union was published was April 18, 1969, in an article written by Jane Scott for The Plain Dealer, Cleveland's daily newspaper.

Jane had held an art contest, in her weekly Friday Magazine column to celebrate The first Cleveland performance of The Iron Butterfly. She asked her readers to depict an Iron Butterfly. I submitted a full color watercolor painting I did of an Iron Butterfly with the four band members in each section of its wings.

I was the top winner of 2 free tickets to the Public Hall concert. When Jane called me, she asked what school I went to and if I had any other interests, beside art? I mentioned I was the drummer of our garage/basement band, Bluestone Union. I had just re-named the band. Bill Brown had named us The Post Mortem and we played with that name a few times. I wanted a name less morbid and associated with our location.

One Post Mortem performance was for our friend and future roadie/sound man, Ken Gibson. We played a party in his back yard! Ken and guitarist/vocalist, Bill Brown lived on Glenside Rd., in South Euclid, Ohio. Myself and guitarist/vocalist, Ken Co***lo lived next to each other one street over of Glenside, on Clinton Ave. We all walked down Bluestone Rd. to attend St. Margaret Mary Catholic school at S. Belvoir and Bluestone roads.

Ken and Bill were Ok with the name, after I had made a list of other names. I was influenced by Buffalo Springfield and local band, Cyrus Erie, that both created their band names after tractor and construction equipment company names. I looked first in a street guide and hooked Bluestone Road with Union Ave. It sounded good together!

In June of 1969, our band performed at an 8th grade graduation party, in the social hall of St. Margaret Mary. Bill Brown would be attending college in the fall of '69 at Kent State University, so we dis-banded. I was looking to play music again. I met like minded high school students at St. Joseph High School. The search was on… To be continued. by Wally Gunn
