25 things before you plant a seed.
We upgraded our greenhouse tables this week. While I was cutting and building, I kept thinking about something another farmer said — there's always 25 things you gotta do before a single seed goes in the soil
That's muda. talks about this — waste your customer never sees or cares about. Nobody buying a bag of our lettuce cares if my bench is nice. So how do I do fewer of those 25 things?
Side note: we're working to reduce plastic on the farm (inspired by Clay Bottom), but our old wooden tables were crap. Unfortunately sometimes the less-waste move is the plastic one. All the frame materials were reused recycled — only the tops are new.
Just transplanting some lettuce with the paperpot transplanter! Kinda love this tool for how efficient it is and also how much it saves my back. It still takes some time to get it dialed in and the soil has to be pretty clear of any large debris.

Massive upgrade to the solar system temperature controller for our greens tunnel. Thanks to the folks at Empire Battery Cleveland for the new power. New charge controller also.

After a long, cold spell I'm super excited to share the first spinach harvest of the season! I get a little blue in the winter and picking these succulent leaves brings me so much joy. It's sweet and delicious. You can find this spinach - harvested and delivered today! Thanks friends.

This spinach isn't going to plant itself. Though the paper pot transplanter makes it pretty easy. Grateful for some warm days to be able to get this in the ground!

Winter carrots are so sweet! I always get them planted late (maybe mid September ?) but these look pretty great. I mowed down the greens today and got a row cover on them so we can enjoy these all winter.
Join us for the last craft event of the season! We'll make wreaths with most materials harvested from the farm. Event will be outside under cover so dress accordingly. Hope to see you there!
